Some people avoid going to the doctor because they don’t want to find out that anything is wrong with them. Some people avoid going to church for the same reason. But ignorance of our sickness doesn’t make us healthy, and ignorance of our sin doesn’t make us innocent
Roman law is considered to be the source of the idea that ignorance of the law excuses no one. But the concept originated much earlier. When God gave the law to Israel, He established that even unintentional sin required a sacrifice for forgiveness (Lev. 4; Ezek. 45:18-20).
In his letter to Christians living in Rome, the apostle Paul addressed the issue of ignorance or lack of understanding. When people were ignorant of God’s righteousness, they made up their own (Rom.10:3). When we live according to our own standards of right and wrong, we might feel good about ourselves, but that doesn’t make us spiritually healthy. only when we are measured by God’s standard of righteousness (Jesus) do we know the condition of our spiritual health.
None of us can achieve the righteousness of Christ, but thankfully we don’t have to. He shares His righteousness with us (5:21). The good news about finding out what’s wrong with us is that the Great Physician can make us well. |

Romans 5:12-21
[12] Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--
[13] (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
[14] Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
[15] But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.
[16] And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification.
[17] For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.)
[18] Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
[19] For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous.
[20] Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
[21] so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. | |

| 무지와 순결 |

어떤 사람들은 자신의 몸에 무언가 이상이 있다는 것이 발견되기를 원치 않기 때문에 병원에 가기를 꺼립니다. 어떤 사람들은 같은 이유로 교회 가기를 꺼립니다. 그러나 병에 대한 무지가 우리를 건강하게 만들지 못하는 것처럼 죄에 대한 무지도 우리를 순결하게 만들지 못합니다.
사람들은 법에 대한 무지가 변명의 이유가 될 수 없다는 사상을 갖고 있는 최초의 법이 로마법이라고 생각합니다. 그러나 그런 개념은 이미 오래 전부터 있었습니다. 하나님이 이스라엘 백성들에게 법을 주시면서, 모르고 지은 죄도 희생제물이 필요하다고 말씀하셨습니다(레 4장; 겔 45:18-20).
바울사도는 로마에 살고 있는 그리스도인들에게 쓴 편지에서 무지 또는 이해의 결핍이 주는 문제를 거론하였습니다. 하나님의 공의에 대해 무지할 때 사람들은 자기의 의를 만들어냅니다(롬 10:3). 우리가 우리 자신이 정한 옳고 그름의 기준에 따라 살게 되면, 우리 자신에 대해서 좋다고 느낄지는 모르지만 그것이 우리를 영적으로 건강하게 만들지는 않습니다. 오직 하나님의 의의 기준(예수님)으로 우리 자신을 평가할 때에만 우리의 영적 건강 상태를 알 수 있습니다.
그리스도의 의를 이룰 사람은 우리 중에 아무도 없지만, 너무나 감사하게도 우리는 그럴 필요가 없습니다. 예수님은 그분의 의를 우리에게 나누어 주십니다(5:21). 우리의 잘못에 대한 좋은 소식은 우리를 건강하게 고칠 위대한 치료자가 있다는 것입니다. |
로마서 5:12-21
[12] 그러므로 한 사람으로 말미암아 죄가 세상에 들어오고 죄로 말미암아 사망이 들어왔나니 이와 같이 모든 사람이 죄를 지었으므로 사망이 모든 사람에게 이르렀느니라
[13] 죄가 율법 있기 전에도 세상에 있었으나 율법이 없었을 때에는 죄를 죄로 여기지 아니하였느니라
[14] 그러나 아담으로부터 모세까지 아담의 범죄와 같은 죄를 짓지 아니한 자들까지도 사망이 왕노릇 하였나니 아담은 오실 자의 모형이라
[15] 그러나 이 은사는 그 범죄와 같지 아니하니 곧 한 사람의 범죄를 인하여 많은 사람이 죽었은즉 더욱 하나님의 은혜와 또한 한 사람 예수 그리스도의 은혜로 말미암은 선물은 많은 사람에게 넘쳤느니라
[16] 또 이 선물은 범죄한 한 사람으로 말미암은 것과 같지 아니하니 심판은 한 사람으로 말미암아 정죄에 이르렀으나 은사는 많은 범죄로 말미암아 의롭다 하심에 이름이니라
[17] 한 사람의 범죄로 말미암아 사망이 그 한 사람을 통하여 왕 노릇 하였은즉 더욱 은혜와 의의 선물을 넘치게 받는 자들은 한 분 예수 그리스도를 통하여 생명 안에서 왕노릇 하리로다
[18] 그런즉 한 범죄로 많은 사람이 정죄에 이른 것 같이 한 의로운 행위로 말미암아 많은 사람이 의롭다 하심을 받아 생명에 이르렀느니라
[19] 한 사람이 순종하지 아니함으로 많은 사람이 죄인 된 것 같이 한 사람이 순종하심으로 많은 사람이 의인이 되리라
[20] 율법이 들어온 것은 범죄를 더하게 하려 함이라 그러나 죄가 더한 곳에 은혜가 더욱 넘쳤나니
