17 August Fri, 2012 They Are Watching [ Matthew 5:13 - 5:16 ] - hymn552 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16 A professional football player’s team was having a terrible season, losing week after week. A reporter asked him how he stayed motivated to play hard and give his best even though his team lost almost every game. He responded, “My dad is watching that game. My mom is watching that game. You better believe I’m going to do my best!” He recognized that there was more at stake than just winning or losing. People were watching, and that reality always drove him to do his best. Jesus reminded us of this reality in the early portions of His Sermon on the Mount. We should live our lives with a recognition that what we do is observed by those around us—and this visible life makes a statement about our God. He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”(Matt.5:16). How does the light of our lives shine? By bringing the heart and character of Christ into the situations that engage us every day. By showing compassion as He did for the marginalized or forgotten. By displaying concern for the Father’s name and reputation. People are watching us. The question is, What do they see?     Show me the way, Lord, let my light shineAs an example of good to mankind.Help them to see the patterns of Thee,Shining in beauty, lived out in me. — Neuer Let your light shine—whether you’re a candle in a corner or a lighthouse on a hill. Matthew 5:13-16 [13] "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. [14] "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. [16] "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

2012년 08월 17일 (금) 그들이 보고 있다 [ 마태복음 5:13 - 5:16 ] - 찬송가 552장 이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라 - 마태복음 5:16 어떤 프로미식축구 선수의 소속팀이 매주 연패하면서 최악의 시즌을 보내고 있었습니다. 기자 한 사람이 그에게 팀이 계속 지기만 하는데도 어떻게 그렇게 최선을 다하면서 열심히 뛰는지를 물어보았습니다. 그는 “우리 아버지가 시합을 보고 계시고, 어머니도 보고 계십니다. 그런데 어떻게 제가 최선을 다하지 않을 수 있겠습니까?”라고 대답했습니다. 단순히 이기고 지는 것을 떠나 훨씬 더 중요한 것이 있다는 것을 그는 알고 있었습니다. 사람들이 시합을 보고 있었고, 바로 그 사실이 그가 항상 최선을 다하도록 만들었던 것입니다. 예수님은 이 사실을 산상수훈의 앞부분에서 우리에게 상기시켜 주셨습니다. 우리는 주변 사람들이 우리의 행동을 보고 있으며, 그렇게 보이는 우리의 삶이 우리 하나님의 모습에 대해 말해 준다는 사실을 명심하고 살아야 합니다. 주님은 “이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라”(마 5:16)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 어떻게 우리의 삶의 빛이 밝게 비칠 수 있을까요? 그것은 매일 우리가 처하는 상황을 그리스도의 마음과 성품을 가지고 맞이하는 것입니다. 주님께서 하신 것처럼 소외되고 잊힌 사람들을 불쌍히 여기고, 하나님 아버지의 이름과 평판에 해가 되지 않도록 노력함을 보여주는 것입니다. 사람들이 우리를 보고 있습니다. 문제는 그들이 우리의 어떤 모습을 보느냐 입니다.     주님, 길을 보여주소서제 빛이 사람들에게 선한 본보기로 빛나게 하소서제 속에서부터 살아나와 아름답게 빛남으로 그들이 주님의 형상을 볼 수 있게 도와주소서   구석에 있는 촛불이든 언덕 위의 등대이든, 당신의 빛을 발하라. 마태복음 5:13-16 [13] 너희는 세상의 소금이니 소금이 만일 그 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 짜게 하리요 후에는 아무 쓸 데 없어 다만 밖에 버려져 사람에게 밟힐 뿐이니라 [14] 너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨겨지지 못할 것이요 [15] 사람이 등불을 켜서 말 아래에 두지 아니하고 등경 위에 두나니 이러므로 집 안 모든 사람에게 비치느니라 [16] 이같이 너희 빛이 사람 앞에 비치게 하여 그들로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라
