산책하면서...

Descanso Gardens는 L.A. 카운티 소유 정원으로 산책로와 꽃길이 잘 정돈되어 좋은 휴식공간이다.  여기서 매년 봄철이 되면 화려한 봄꽃 축제(The Festival of Spring Flowers at Descanso Gardens)가 열린다. 봄꽃 축제에는 온갖 꽃들이 소개되는데 이중 가장 돋보이는 것은 튤립 꽃이고 이 정원에 가장 많은 나무는 동백나무 이다. 북아메리카에서 가장 다양하고 많은 동백꽃을 지닌 곳이다. 기온이 높아서 지금 튜립꽃과 동백꽃을 보기에 좀 늦은 감이 있다.  오늘(목요일, 3월 31일) 여유로운 산보를 하는데 완연한 봄, 수많은 꽃들이 저 마다의 자태를 자랑하는데 동백꽃은 마지막 자태를 뽐내고...

Descanso Gardens, located in La Cañada Flintridge, Los Angeles County, California, is a 150 acres (61 ha) botanical garden.

At one time, this property belonged to newspaper magnate E. Manchester Boddy, who owned the Los Angeles Daily News. He ran a commercial camellia garden at the location, supplying prom boutonnières, for example, until he ceded the site to Los Angeles County in 1953.

The county has developed the property to include a rosarium, as well as a Japanese tea house, lilac garden, bird sanctuary, xeriscape, and a gift shop. They also regularly host professional camellia shows, chamber music, and weddings. They are busiest however on the Easter weekend, when the tulips are in bloom.

The park also features the Descanso Gardens Enchanted Railroad, an eighth scale replica of a diesel train, that takes visitors around a section of the park.

In 1942, while the Japanese and Japanese-Americans living on the West Coast of the United States were being sent to internment camps, Boddy bought out two local successful Japanese nurseries. According to different sources, he acquired somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 camellias

입장권을 사는 입구에 서서 환하게 반기는 수선화.

표를 들고 입구로 들어서자 마자 고향집에도 있었던 등나무를 만난다. 꽃은 이미 시들었어도 담는다.

고목이 된 Coast Live Oak/ California Live Oak tree들과 어울어진 동백나무들이 숲을 이루었다.

Dogwood(학명: Cornus Virginiana) - 가지는 연약하나 위를 보고 피는 꽃(upright flower)이라 좋아한다. 

뒤에 보이는 고목은 Coast Live Oak/ California Live Oak,  역시 내가 바라보기 좋아하는 나무.

Descanso Gardens was deeded to the County of Los Angeles in 1953 as a floral park.

꽃 잎이 시들고 열매가 맺혀도 고개 숙이지 않아서(upright flower) 좋아하는 꽃.

동양적이지요? Japanese-style Garden입니다.

Oak trees와 동백나무 숲에서 드디어 사람들을 만났는데 너나 나다 동백꽃에 눈길을...

햇살이 비춰주니 촛불을 밝힌 듯... 

오렌지 색은 안개 속에서도 잘 보이기 때문에 안개가 번번히 낀 샌프란시스코의 금문교도

이와 비슷한 색을 칠한다. 산책하면서 보는 것 마다 뭔가를 떠오르게 해주니 다른 세상에 온 느낌으로

걷는다. 물론 여행 중에도 그렇지만 집 가까이에 있을 때 마음이 조금 더 평화롭다고 할까...
