'Hawaii's Complete Pineapple Experience'
하와이 오아후 섬에 있는 Dole Plantation(돌 농장)은 한국인들을 포함한 많은 관광객들이 찾는 곳이더군요. 난생 처음 본(실제 식물) 파인애플과 다른 식물들의 사진을 찍고 파인애플 성장 과정도 보고 파인애플로 만든 식품을 먹어볼 기회도 가졌지요. 무엇보다 생각도 안했는데 그곳에 유칼립투스(Eucalyptus globulus)나무도 주차장과 농장 군데 군데 있었습니다. 오스트랄리아(Australia)가 원산지인 유칼립투스(Eucalyptus globulus)는 Southern California에서 잘 자라고 어디서나 흔히 볼 수 있지만 이곳에서 본 유칼립투스(Eucalyptus globulus)는 나무의 껍질 색이 고운 편이더군요. 비에 젖으면 정말 아름답게 무지게 색을 보여줍니다. 아시겠지만 Koala(코알라)가 이 나무의 이파리를 먹고 산답니다. Dole 상표 식품과 상품을 선물가게와 구경할 수 있는 농장이 있습니다. Dole 회사의 역사를 말해주는 자료가 전시되어 있으니 파인애플의 왕이라고 불려진 James Drummond Dole 의 기념관(?)이라고 해도 과언이 아닐겁니다. 하버드에서 농업 경영학을 전공한 그는 파인애플 시장의 장래성을 예견하고 농장을 키웠으면 Dole Food Company, Inc./Headquarters는 Southern California(남가주)의 Westlake Village, California에 있습니다. 사진은 언제나처럼 본 순서대로 올렸습니다.

농업 경영학을 전공했고, 파인애플 시장의 장래성을 예견하고 농장을 키웠다.
James Drummond Dole (September 27, 1877 – May 20, 1958), also known as the 'Pineapple King', was an American industrialist who developed the pineapple industry in Hawaii and established the Hawaiian Pineapple Company. Hawaiian Pineapple Company, or HAPCO, was later reorganized to become the Dole Food Company, which now does business in over 90 countries. Dole was a cousin (once removed) of Sanford B. Dole, President of the Republic of Hawaii.
Early Life -
James Dole was born on September 27, 1877, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts (now part of Boston) to an American Puritan family long settled in the country since Colonial America times. His father was Unitarian minister Charles Fletcher Dole and his mother was Frances Drummond. His paternal great-grandfather was Wigglesworth Dole (1779–1845). His maternal grandfather was also a clergyman, James Drummond. Growing up, Dole attended Roxbury Latin School in Roxbury, Massachusetts from which he graduated. In 1899, Dole obtained his bachelor's degree in agriculture from the Bussey Institute of Harvard University. After receiving USD $50 as a gift, Dole began saving money for a future business. After growing his savings to $16,240, Dole moved to Honolulu, Hawaii at the age of 22, arriving on November 16, 1899, (then governed by his cousin Sanford B. Dole, after the 1893 overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani).[3] He purchased a 64-acre (260,000 m government homestead in the central plains of the island of Oahu at 21°30′30″N 158°0′22″W. After experimenting with a number of crops, he settled on planting pineapple.

잎이 불그스레한 나무는 Ti Plants(Palm Lily, Cabbage Palm, Good Luck Plant)
내 점심 - 거의 먹을 수가 없었습니다.
늘 따끈 따끈하고 파인애플도 익힌 걸로 먹었기에 이건 먹음직스럽지 못했지요. 또 배가 덜 고팠을 수도... :)
참고: 보라색 꽃은 Dendrobium Orchid로 하와이에서 이꽃(생화)으로 목걸이를 만들지요.

주차장으로 가는 길목입니다.
속으로 이런한 곳이로구나 하고 100% Kona Coffee 3 봉다리와 견과류를 사들고 떠납니다.
내가 사먹은 과일과 야채, 특별히 시금치(동네 마트에서) 등이 좋은 DOLE 상품이 좋다는 걸 경험했습니다.
