Luke 24:45 The sequoia tree, one of three species of redwoods, is among the world’s largest and most enduring organisms. It can grow to 300 feet in height, weigh over 2.5 million pounds(1.1 million kg), and live for 3,000 years. But the majestic sequoia owes much of its size and longevity to what lies below the surface. A twelve- to fourteen-foot deep matting of roots, spreading over as much as an acre of earth, firmly grounds its towering height and astonishing weight.   A redwood’s expansive root system, however, is small compared to the national history, religion, and anticipation that undergird the life of Jesus. on one occasion He told a group of religious leaders that the Scriptures they loved and trusted told His story(John 5:39). In the synagogue of Nazareth He opened the scroll of Isaiah, read a description of Israel’s Messiah, and said, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”(Luke 4:21).   Later, after His resurrection, Jesus helped His disciples understand how the words of Moses, the prophets, and even the songs of Israel showed why it was necessary for Him to suffer, die, and rise from the dead(24:46).   What grace and grandeur—to see Jesus rooted in the history and Scriptures of a nation, and to see how extensively our own lives are rooted in our need of Him. Mart DeHaan     • Father in heaven, please help us never forget that the history of Israel and the inspired words of Scripture ground us in seeing our need of Your Son. All Scripture helps us see our need of Jesus. 44. He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." 45. Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46. He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47. and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48. You are witnesses of these things. 49. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

2017년 07월 16일 (주일) 깊은 뿌리 [ 누가복음 24:44 - 24:49 ] - 찬송가 202장 이에 그들의 마음을 열어 성경을 깨닫게 하시고 누가복음 24:45 세쿼이아 나무는 세 종류의 레드우드 중 하나로 세계에서 가장 크고 가장 오래 사는 생명체 중의 하나입니다. 이 나무는 90미터까지 자라고 무게가 110만 킬로그램을 넘으며 3천 년을 살 수 있습니다. 세쿼이아의 거대한 크기와 장수의 비밀은 땅 속에 있는 뿌리에 있습니다. 약 4미터 내외까지 깊이 내린 뿌리가 서로 얽혀 1,200평 이상 넓게 퍼져 있어서 아주 높고 엄청나게 무거운 나무를 단단히 지지해주고 있는 것입니다.  그런데 이 레드우드의 광대한 뿌리도 예수님의 삶을 뒷받침하는 한 나라의 역사와 종교, 염원에 비교하면 작은 것입니다. 일찍이 예수님은 종교지도자들 앞에서 그들이 사랑하고 신뢰하는 성경이 주님 자신에 대하여 증언하는 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다(요 5:39). 나사렛 회당에서 예수님은 이사야서 두루마리를 읽으시며 “이 글이 오늘 너희 귀에 응하였느니라”(눅 4:21)라고 말씀하셨습니다.  예수님은 부활하신 후, 모세와 선지자들의 말과 심지어 이스라엘의 노래들에서 왜 주님이 고난당해 죽으시고 죽음에서 다시 살아나셔야 하는 것을 보여주고 있는지 제자들에게 설명해주셨습니다(24:46).  한 민족의 역사와 성경에 뿌리를 두고 있는 예수님과, 그 예수님에게 우리의 삶이 전적으로 뿌리를 내리고 있다는 사실을 깨닫는 것이 얼마나 은혜롭고 숭고한 일인지요!     • 하늘에 계신 아버지, 이스라엘의 역사와 영감을 받은 성경 말씀이 우리에게 하나님의 아들이신 주님이 필요함을 깨닫게 되는 근본임을 절대 잊지 않도록 도와주소서. 모든 성경은 우리에게 예수님이 필요하다는 것을 알게 해준다. 44. 또 이르시되 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 너희에게 말한 바 곧 모세의 율법과 선지자의 글과 시편에 나를 가리켜 기록된 모든 것이 이루어져야 하리라 한 말이 이것이라 하시고 45. 이에 그들의 마음을 열어 성경을 깨닫게 하시고 46. 또 이르시되 이같이 그리스도가 고난을 받고 제삼일에 죽은 자 가운데서 살아날 것과 47. 또 그의 이름으로 죄 사함을 받게 하는 회개가 예루살렘에서 시작하여 모든 족속에게 전파될 것이 기록되었으니 48. 너희는 이 모든 일의 증인이라 49. 볼지어다 내가 내 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 너희에게 보내리니 너희는 위로부터 능력으로 입혀질 때까지 이 성에 머물라 하시니라

Insight:

This remarkable passage records Jesus Christ’s explanation of the scriptural foundation to His redemptive ministry on earth. He tells the disciples—and us—that Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms bear witness to who He is. The expectations of the Jewish nation had been that Messiah would be a conquering hero who would liberate them from tyranny. In the time of Christ, the obvious oppressor was the Roman Empire. Yet God’s eternal plan from before the creation of the world was that forgiveness of sins would be secured through the substitute blood offering of Messiah—Jesus of Nazareth. He would provide redemption for every member of the human race who would hear and believe the gospel of grace. Jesus told His followers that opposition and persecution would accompany this proclamation of the gospel, but an eternal reward and joyous fellowship with the Creator-Redeemer God would be given to those who persevered.
