유서를 쓰듯이
혼자서 살아온 사람은 평소에도 그렇지만
남은 세월이 다할 때까지 자기 관리에 철저해야 한다.
늙어서 자기 자신에 대한 관리가 소흘하면
그 인생이 초라하게 마련이다.
꽃처럼 새롭게 피어나는 것은 젊음만이 아니다.
나이를 먹을수록 한결같이 자신의 삶을 가꾸고 관리한다면
날마다 새롭게 피어날 수 있다.
화사한 봄의 꽃도 좋지만
늦가을 서리가 내릴 무렵에 피는
국화의 향기는 그 어느 꽃보다도 귀하다.
자기 관리를 위해 내 삶이 새로워져야겠다는 생각을
요즘 들어 자주 하게 된다.
할 수만 있다면 유서를 남기는 듯한 그런 글을 쓰고 싶다.
언제 어디서 누구에게 읽히더라도
부끄럽지 않을 삶의 진실을 담고 싶다.

Like a Farewell Note
People who get along in life living alone
must focus on managing their inner and outer self
until they have used up their entire life.
Growing older and neglecting to care for oneself,
such a life cannot but end up shabby and wretched.
Blooming anew like a flower is not only something of youth.
Even when aging, if we consistently manage the
cultivation of our own lives,
we can bloom anew everyday,
Though the brilliant flowers of spring are fine,
more resplendent than any other flower
is the fragrance of the chrysanthemum
blooming right around the late fall frost.
Nowadays, I often think that I have to renew my life in
order to better control myself.
If I could, I want to write something with the same feeling
as if I were going to leave it behind as my farewell note.
I want to impart an entire life's truthfulness, such that
even were it to be someday, somewhere read by anyone,
I would not be ashamed.
