I am the way, the truth, and the life. — John 14:6
One day when I was in downtown Chicago, I hailed a taxi. once inside, I noticed several advertisements for a New Age guru posted on the seat in front of me. The driver claimed that this mystic was the “divine one” for our day. He believed that God appointed various leaders throughout the ages, and that Jesus had merely been the appointee for His time.
Of course, I had to disagree. As we talked, I mentioned Jesus’ words: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”(John 14:6). Contrary to the cabbie’s belief, Jesus was not just one in a series of enlightened religious leaders—He is the only way to know God, and only through Him can we get to heaven.
As the “Son of the living God”(Matt.16:16), Jesus didn’t simply declare Himself to be the ultimate spiritual authority. He proved it with His death and resurrection. Christ “offered one sacrifice for sins forever”(Heb.10:12).
Jesus said of Himself: “I am in the Father and the Father in Me”(John 14:11). Therefore we don’t need to investigate any “new” path of salvation. It’s better to learn all we can about Christ; He is the only one who can provide spiritual certainty.

Spiritual phonies will only take us for a ride, but Jesus will take us all the way to heaven.

[1] "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. [2] "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. [4] "And where I go you know, and the way you know." [5] Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" [6] Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. [7] "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. [11] "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

택시 안에서 나눈 진리
[ 요한복음 14:1 - 14:11 ] - 찬송가516장
내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 - 요한복음 14:6
어느 날 나는 시카고 도심에서 택시를 잡았습니다. 택시를 타고 보니 앞 좌석에 뉴에이지 지도자에 대한 광고가 눈에 띄었습니다. 택시기사는 그 신비주의자가 이 시대의 “신성한 사람”이라고 주장하였습니다. 그는 하나님이 전 세대에 걸쳐서 다양한 지도자를 지명하셨고, 예수님도 그 시대에 하나님이 지명하신 한 사람에 불과하다고 믿었습니다.
물론 나는 이 주장에 동의하지 않았습니다. 이야기를 나누는 동안 나는 “내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라”(요 14:6)라고 하신 예수님의 말씀을 언급하였습니다. 그 택시기사의 믿음과는 반대로 예수님은 깨달음을 얻은 한 종교지도자들 중의 하나가 아니었습니다. 예수님은 하나님을 알게 하는 유일한 길이요, 오직 그를 통해서만 하늘나라에 갈 수가 있습니다.
“살아계신 하나님의 아들”(마 16:16)로서 예수님은 자신을 궁극적인 영적 권위라고 선언하시는 데 그치지 않으셨습니다. 그는 죽음과 부활로써 그것을 입증하셨습니다. 그리스도는 “죄를 위하여 한 영원한 제사를 드리셨습니다”(히 10:12).
예수님은 자신을 일컬어 “내가 아버지 안에 거하고 아버지께서 내 안에 계신다”(요 14:11)라고 하셨습니다. 그러므로 우리는 구원의 어떤 “새로운”길을 탐색할 필요가 없습니다. 우리가 그리스도에 대해서 배울 수 있는 모든 것, 즉 그분이 영적인 확실성을 제공하실 수 있는 유일한 분이라는 사실을 배우는 것이 더 낫습니다.
예수님을 생각할 때마다 나의 마음은 떨리네 묶인 자를 자유케 하신 그 축복의 이름 오직 그 이름을 통해서만 구원을 찾을 수 있기에 세상의 어떤 이름도 내겐 그만한 의미를 갖지 못하네
영적 사기꾼들은 우리를 한번 들뜨게 할 뿐이지만, 예수님은 우리를 하늘나라로까지 인도하신다.
