You shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. — Acts 1:8
It was my first day of class at the Moscow Bible Institute where I was teaching Russian pastors. I began by asking the students to give their names and where they served, but one student shocked me as he boldly declared, “Of all the pastors, I am the most faithful to the Great Commission!” I was taken aback momentarily until, smiling, he continued, “The Great Commission says we are to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. I pastor north of the Arctic Circle in a village nicknamed ‘The End of the Earth’!” Everyone laughed and we continued with the session.
The words of that pastor, who ministered in the Yamal (which means “end of the world”) Peninsula, carry great significance. In Jesus’ final message to His disciples, He said, “You shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Every corner of our world, no matter how remote, must be touched by the message of the cross. The Savior died for the world—and that includes people both near and far.
Each of us has the opportunity to take the gospel to people in our “end of the earth.” No matter where you are, you can tell someone about the love of Christ. Who can you tell today?

Acts 1:1-8
[1] The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, [2] until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, [3] to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. [4] And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; [5] "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." [6] Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" [7] And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. [8] "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

끝까지
[ 사도행전 1:1 - 1:8 ] - 찬송가518장
예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라 - 사도행전 1:8
그날은 내가 모스크바 성서 대학에서 러시아의 목회자들을 가르친 첫 번째 날이었습니다. 나는 학생들에게 그들의 이름과 어디서 사역하는 지를 묻는 것으로 수업을 시작했는데, 한 학생이 대담하게 이렇게 선언해 나를 놀라게 했습니다. “모든 목회자들 중에 제가 지상명령에 가장 충실합니다!” 나는 순간 당황했는데 그는 웃으면서 계속 말했습니다. “지상명령은 우리에게 땅끝까지 복음을 전하라고 합니다. 나는 북극권의 북쪽 ‘지구의 끝’이라는 별명을 가진 동네에서 목회를 하고 있습니다.” 모든 사람들이 웃었고, 우리는 수업을 계속했습니다.
야말(“세상의 끝”이라는 뜻) 반도에서 목회를 하던 그 목회자의 말은 아주 중요한 의미를 가집니다. 예수님은 제자들에게 한 마지막 말씀에서 “너희는 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라”(행 1:8)라고 하셨습니다. 아무리 먼 곳이라도 이 세상의 구석구석마다 십자가의 메시지가 전해져야 합니다. 구주께서 세상을 위해 죽으셨습니다. 세상이란 가까운 곳과 먼 곳에 있는 사람들 모두를 일컫는 말입니다.
우리 모두는 각자의 “땅 끝”에 사는 사람들에게 복음을 전파할 기회가 있습니다. 당신이 있는 곳이 어디든 간에 당신은 누군가에게 그리스도의 사랑에 대해 말할 수 있습니다. 오늘 당신은 누구에게 이야기하겠습니까?
복음을 듣지 못한 사람은 예수님을 믿을 수 없다네 그러니 우리는 그 메시지를 멀든 가깝든 세상 모두에 전파해야 한다네
어떤 장소라도 그리스도를 증거하는데
적합한 장소가 될 수 있다.
