Holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering. — Colossians 3:12
One day my wife called me at work and said, “Something’s going on next door. Lots of cars are there.” Because of my neighbor’s occupation, I feared the worst, and soon those fears were realized. Our neighbor, policeman Trevor Slot, had just been killed in the line of duty, trying to stop the escape of two bank robbers. Our community was stunned.
Trevor had no time to prepare for his death. Yet he was ready. His faith in Christ was secure, and his reputation as a remarkable man was intact. At his funeral, attended by hundreds of fellow officers, his colleague Detective Brandyn Heugel said, “He was a dedicated police officer, but first and foremost he was a loving husband to Kim and a doting father to Kaitlyn and Abbie.” Indeed the theme of Trevor’s tributes all centered on his great personality and his love and care for his family.
Trevor’s life exemplified the words of Colossians 3:12-13, “Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another.” Those traits leave an inspiring legacy.
We don’t know when God will call us home, but we do know this: Each day is an opportunity to leave a testimony worthy of our faith.
Oh, may all who come behind us find us faithful;May the fire of our devotion light their way;May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe,And the lives we live inspire them to obey. — Mohr

Colossians 3:8-17
[8] But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. [9] Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices [10] and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. [11] Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. [12] Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. [13] Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. [14] And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. [15] Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. [17] And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

유산
[ 골로새서 3:8 - 3:17 ] - 찬송가491장
거룩하고 사랑 받는 자처럼 긍휼과 자비와 겸손과 온유와 오래 참음을 옷 입고 - 골로새서 3:12
어느 날, 아내가 직장으로 전화해서 말했습니다. “옆집에 무슨 일이 일어났나봐요. 차들이 잔뜩 모여 있어요.” 옆집 사람의 직업을 알고 있던 터라 뭔가 불길한 느낌이 들었는데, 이 예감이 들어맞았습니다. 경찰관인 트레버 슬럿이 두 명의 은행 강도가 도주하는 것을 저지하다가 조금 전에 순직했다는 것입니다. 온 동네가 큰 충격에 빠졌습니다.
트레버는 죽음에 대비할 시간은 없었지만 준비는 되어 있었습니다. 주님에 대한 그의 믿음은 견고했고, 그의 훌륭한 사람 됨됨이는 흠잡을 데가 없었습니다. 수백 명의 동료 경찰관들이 참석한 그의 장례식에서 그의 동료였던 형사 브랜딘 휴겔은 이렇게 말했습니다. “트레비는 헌신적인 경관이었지만 무엇보다 아내 킴을 지극히 사랑하는 남편이었고, 동시에 자녀인 케이틀린과 애비를 아끼고 사랑하는 아빠였습니다.” 트레비에게 바쳐진 헌사들의 주제는 모두 그의 훌륭한 성품과 가족에 대한 그의 지극한 사랑에 집중되어 있었습니다.

하나님이 언제 우리를 본향으로 부르실지 모르지만, 우리가 확실히 아는 것은, 매일 하루하루가 우리의 믿음 생활에 합당한 간증을 남길 수 있는 기회라는 것입니다.
뒤따라오는 사람들이 우리의 신실함을 보게 하소서 우리 헌신의 불꽃이 그들의 길을 비추며 우리가 남긴 발자국이 그들을 믿음의 길로 인도하며 우리가 살아온 삶이 그들을 감동시켜 순종케 하소서. — Mohr
매일 좋든 나쁘든 우리의 남긴 유산은 계속 쌓여간다.
골로새서 3:8-17
