November 9, 2012 — by Anne Cetas A Fragrance [ 1 John 4:7 - 4:11 ] - hymn39 If God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. — 1 John 4:11 Katie nervously walked into the church youth group party that Linda had invited her to attend. She hadn’t been to a church since she was a little girl and didn’t know what to expect at a Valentine dinner with mostly strangers. But her heart started to calm when she found valentines at her plate that had been written for her from everyone there. They had cards for each other too, but it touched Katie’s heart that they would think to do that for her, a visitor to their group. Katie felt so welcomed that she accepted Linda’s invitation to a church service. There she heard about God’s love for her in spite of her sinfulness, and she embraced Jesus’ forgiveness. The youth group had given her a fragrance of God’s love, and God opened her heart to trust Him. “If God so loved us, we also ought to love one another,” the apostle John said (1 John 4:11). That’s a love for our brothers and sisters in Christ as well as for those who don’t yet know Him. Ray Stedman wrote, “As God’s love shines into our hearts, we become more open to others, allowing the fragrance of love to drift out and attract those around us.” The youth group did that for Katie. God can spread the fragrance of His love through us today.     Lord, I’m so thankful that because You first loved me, I am able to love others. Please spread the sweetfragrance of Your love through me to everyoneI  interact with today. Amen. A godly life is a fragrance that draws others to Christ. 1 John 4:7-11 [7] Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. [8] Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. [9] This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. [10] This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. [11] Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

2012년 11월 09일 (금) 향기 [ 요한1서 4:7 - 4:11 ] - 찬송가 39장 하나님이 이같이 우리를 사랑하셨은즉 우리도 서로 사랑하는 것이 마땅하도다 - 요한1서 4:11 케티는 린다가 초대한 교회청년그룹 파티에 긴장된 마음으로 걸어 들어갔습니다. 어렸을 때 이후로 교회에 가질 않았던 그녀는 그날 발렌타인 저녁을 대부분 모르는 사람들과 지내는 것이 어떨지 몰랐습니다. 그러나 그 자리에 참석한 모든 사람이 그녀에게 써 준 발렌타인 카드가 접시 위에 놓인 것을 보고 가슴이 진정되기 시작했습니다. 물론 다른 모든 참석자에게도 카드가 있었지만, 그들의 그룹을 방문한 그녀에게도 똑같이 해주려고 했었다는 것이 케이티의 마음을 감동시켰습니다. 진심어린 환영을 받았다고 느낀 케이티는 린다가 초대한 교회예배에도 참석했습니다. 거기서 그녀는 자기의 죄에도 불구하고 그녀를 사랑하시는 하나님의 사랑에 대해 듣게 되었고, 예수님의 용서도 받아들였습니다. 그 청년그룹은 하나님의 사랑의 향기를 그녀에게 주었고, 하나님은 그녀의 마음을 열어 하나님을 믿게 하셨습니다. “하나님이 이같이 우리를 사랑하셨은즉 우리도 서로 사랑하는 것이 마땅하도다”(요일 4:11). 이것은 그리스도 안에서 형제자매를 향한 사랑인 동시에 주님을 아직 모르는 사람들을 향한 사랑이기도 합니다. 레이 스테드만은 이렇게 썼습니다, “하나님의 사랑이 우리의 마음에 비치면, 우리는 다른 사람들에게 마음을 더 열게 되고, 사랑의 향기가 밖으로 흘러나와 우리 주변 사람들을 끌어당기게 된다.” 그 청년그룹이 케이티에게 바로 그렇게 했던 것입니다. 하나님은 오늘도 그분의 사랑의 향기를 우리를 통해 퍼뜨릴 수 있습니다.     주님, 먼저 저를 사랑해주심으로 다른 사람들을 사랑할 수 있게 됨을 너무나 감사합니다. 오늘 만나는 모든 사람들에게 저를 통하여 달콤한 주님의 사랑의  향기를 퍼뜨릴 수 있게 해주소서. 아멘. 경건한 삶은 다른 사람들을 그리스도에게로 이끄는 향기이다.  요한1서 4:7-11 [7] 사랑하는 자들아 우리가 서로 사랑하자 사랑은 하나님께 속한 것이니 사랑하는 자마다 하나님으로부터 나서 하나님을 알고 [8] 사랑하지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 알지 못하나니 이는 하나님은 사랑이심이라 [9] 하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 이렇게 나타난 바 되었으니 하나님이 자기의 독생자를 세상에 보내심은 그로 말미암아 우리를 살리려 하심이라 [10] 사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목 제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라 [11] 사랑하는 자들아 하나님이 이같이 우리를 사랑하셨은즉 우리도 서로 사랑하는 것이 마땅하도다
