For our grandson’s birthday, my wife baked and decorated a gigantic chocolate chip cookie to serve at his party. She got out her cookbook, gathered the ingredients, and began to follow the simple steps involved in making cookies. She followed a simple recipe and everything turned out well.
Wouldn’t it be nice if life was like that? Just follow a few easy steps and then enjoy a happy life.
But life is not so simple. We live in a fallen world and there is no easy recipe to follow that will ensure a life free of pain, loss, injustice, or suffering.
In the midst of life’s pain, we need the personal care of the Savior who lived in this world and experienced the same struggles we face. Hebrews 4:15 encourages us: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Christ, who died to give us life, is completely sufficient to carry us through our heartaches and dark experiences. He has “borne our griefs and carried our sorrows”(Isa.53:4).
Jesus knows there is no simple “recipe” to prevent the heartaches of life, so He entered into them with us. Will we trust Him with our tears and grief?
When the trials of this life make you weary And your troubles seem too much to bear, There’s a wonderful solace and comfort

Hebrews 4:11-16
[11] Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. [12] For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. [13] Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. [14] Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. [15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. [16] Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

간단한 처방은 없다

우리에게 있는 대제사장은 우리의 연약함을 동정하지 못하실 이가 아니요 모든 일에 우리와 똑같이 시험을 받으신 이로되 죄는 없으시니라 - 히브리서 4:15
아내가 우리 손자의 생일에 쓰려고 아주 큰 초콜릿 쿠키를 구워서 예쁘게 장식했습니다. 아내는 요리책을 꺼내고 재료를 준비한 후에, 간단한 방법을 따라서 쿠키를 만들었습니다. 설명하는 대로 따라 했더니, 모든 것이 다 잘 만들어졌습니다.
우리의 인생도 그렇게 살 수 있으면 좋지 않겠습니까? 그저 몇 가지 쉬운 과정을 따르기만 하면, 행복한 삶을 살게 되는 것 말입니다.
그러나 인생은 그렇게 간단하지가 않습니다. 우리는 죄악에 물든 세상 속에 살고 있어서, 고통이나 상실, 불의, 또는 고난이 없는 인생을 보장해 줄 수 있는 쉬운 처방이란 없습니다.
우리가 인생의 고통 중에 있을 때, 이 세상에 사시면서 우리가 당면하는 것과 같은 고난을 경험하셨던 주님의 개인적인 보살핌이 필요합니다. 히브리서 4장 15절은 우리에게 이렇게 용기를 줍니다. “우리에게 있는 대제사장은 우리의 연약함을 동정하지 못하실 이가 아니요 모든 일에 우리와 똑같이 시험을 받으신 이로되 죄는 없으시니라.” 우리에게 생명을 주시기 위해 돌아가신 그리스도는 우리가 겪는 마음의 고통과 암울한 상황 속에서도 조금도 부족함이 없이 우리를 이끌어주십니다. 주님은 “우리의 질고를 지고 우리의 슬픔을 당하셨습니다”(사 53:4).
예수님은 인생을 살아가는데 있어서 마음의 고통을 예방할 수 있는 간단한 “처방”이 없다는 것을 아시고, 우리와 함께 그 고통 속으로 들어오셨습니다. 눈물과 슬픔 속에서는 예수님께 의지해야 하지 않을까요?
인생의 시련이 당신을 지치게 하고 당신의 고통이 너무 커 견디기가 힘들 때 기도를 통한 그분과의 조용한 사귐 속에 놀라운 위로와 평안이 있다네
