Recently, I added up the offers of free money that came to me in a week, and my “take” totaled $26 million. But each of those offers was a fraud. Every one—from a $1 million prize to a $7 million offer—was nothing but a lie sent by unscrupulous people to squeeze money from me.
We’re all vulnerable to fantastic offers—to scams that in reality pay off with nothing but trouble. We are offered false hope that ends in dashed dreams.
There is one offer, however, that is genuine, though fantastic beyond belief. It’s the offer God makes to us—salvation through faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved”(Acts 16:31). It is an offer that cost Him greatly—and we get the benefits. The book of Romans tells us, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification”(4:25 niv).
By saying yes to salvation, we can have hope(Titus 1:2), peace(Rom.5:1), forgiveness(Eph.1:7), incomparable riches(2:7), and redemption(4:30). This is the real deal. Jesus’ death and resurrection guarantees it. |

1 Peter 1:3-9
[3] Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
[4] and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you,
[5] who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
[6] In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
[7] These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
[8] Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
[9] for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. |

| 매일 내 이메일에 넘쳐나는 믿기 힘든 제안들을 보면 참 놀랍습니다. 최근 한 주일 동안에 제안된 공짜 돈을 합산해 보니 내 “몫”이 2천 6백만 달러였습니다. 하지만 그 모든 제안은 사기였습니다. 백만 달러 상금에서부터 7백만 달러 제안에 이르기까지 그 모든 것은 비양심적인 사람들이 내 돈을 뜯어내려고 보낸 거짓말일 뿐입니다.
우리 모두는 이런 기막힌 제안에 속아 넘어가기 쉽습니다. 하지만 이것들은 사실 주는 것은 아무것도 없이 문제만 일으키는 사기에 불과합니다. 산산이 깨어진 꿈으로 끝날 거짓 희망을 제안 받은 것이지요.
하지만 도저히 믿을 수 없을 만큼 기막히게 좋은 진정한 제안이 하나 있습니다. 그것은 하나님이 우리에게 하시는 제안으로, 곧 예수님이 십자가에서 이루신 일을 믿으면 구원을 얻는다는 것입니다. “주 예수를 믿으라 그리하면 너와 네 집이 구원을 받으리라”(행 16:31). 이것은 하나님께서 엄청난 값을 지불하시고 우리가 이득을 보는 제안입니다. 로마서는 “예수는 우리가 범죄한 것 때문에 내줌이 되고 또한 우리를 의롭다 하시기 위하여 살아나셨느니라”(4:25)라고 말합니다.
그 구원의 제안에 “예”라고 답함으로써 우리는 소망(딛 1:2)과 평화(롬 5:1), 용서(엡 1:7)와 풍성한 은혜(2:7), 그리고 구속(4:30)을 갖게 됩니다. 이것은 진짜 거래입니다. 예수님의 죽음과 부활이 이것을 보증합니다. |

[5] 너희는 말세에 나타내기로 예비하신 구원을 얻기 위하여 믿음으로 말미암아 하나님의 능력으로 보호하심을 받았느니라
[6] 그러므로 너희가 이제 여러 가지 시험으로 말미암아 잠깐 근심하게 되지 않을 수 없으나 오히려 크게 기뻐하는도다
[7] 너희 믿음의 확실함은 불로 연단하여도 없어질 금보다 더 귀하여 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 칭찬과 영광과 존귀를 얻게 할 것이니라
[8] 예수를 너희가 보지 못하였으나 사랑하는도다 이제도 보지 못하나 믿고 말할 수 없는 영광스러운 즐거움으로 기뻐하니
