| May 1, 2013 — by Joe Stowell | | | All That Is Precious | | [ 1 Peter 2:1 - 2:10 ] - hymn95 | | | Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious. — 1 Peter 2:4 | Throughout my life, I’ve accumulated a lot of stuff. I have boxes of things that at one time were important but over time have lost their intrigue. And, as an unrepentant collector, I’ve realized that the thrill is in searching for and acquiring a new piece to add to the collection. Then my attention turns toward the hunt for the next item.
While we pile up many things that are important to us, very little of it is really precious. In fact, over time I have learned that the most precious things in life are not material items at all. Rather, it’s the people who have loved me and built into my life who are precious. When I find my heart saying, “I don’t know what I’d do without them,” I know that they are indeed precious to me.
So when Peter refers to Jesus as “a chief cornerstone, elect, precious”(1 Peter 2:6), it should resonate in our hearts that He is truly precious—our prized possession above everything and everyone else. Where would we be today without the constant unfailing companionship of His faithful presence, wise and perfect guidance, merciful patience, comfort, and transforming reproof? What would we do without Him? I can’t even imagine! |

1 Peter 2:1-10
[1] Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
[2] Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
[3] now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
[4] As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him--
[5] you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
[6] For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
[7] Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,"
[8] and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.
[9] But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
[10] once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. |
| | 2013년 05월 01일 (수) | | | 소중한 모든 것들 | | [ 베드로전서 2:1 - 2:10 ] - 찬송가 95장 | | | 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산돌이신 예수께 나아가 - 베드로전서 2:4 | 지금까지 살아오면서 나는 많은 물건들을 모아왔습니다. 한때는 소중했으나 시간이 지남에 따라 흥미를 잃어버린 물건들을 넣어 둔 상자들을 가지고 있습니다. 광적인 수집가였던 나는 소장품을 늘리기 위해 새로운 물건들을 찾아내고 구하는데 열광했지만 일단 물건을 손에 넣고 나면 또 다른 물건을 찾아 나섰습니다.
우리는 우리에게 중요하다고 생각되는 것들을 많이 모아보지만 정말 소중한 것은 거의 없습니다. 사실 인생에서 가장 소중한 것은 물질적인 것들이 전혀 아니라는 것을 살아오면서 나는 알게 되었습니다. 오히려 정말 소중한 것은 나를 사랑하고 나의 삶 속에서 함께 살아가는 ‘사람들’입니다. “만일 이 사람들이 없다면 나는 어떻게 살지”라고 생각되는 그들이야말로 내게 정말 소중한 존재라는 것을 압니다.
그래서 베드로가 예수님을 “내가 택한 보배로운 모퉁잇돌”(벧전 2:6)이라고 표현한 그 말은, 예수님이 정말로 소중한 분, 우리가 가진 그 무엇보다 그 누구보다도 귀한 분이라는 사실을 우리 마음속에 일깨워줍니다. 주님께서 변함없는 임재로 언제나 동행하여 주시고, 지혜로 완벽하게 인도해주시며, 자비로 인내하시고, 위로하시며, 책망하심으로써 우리를 변화시켜 주시지 않았다면 우리는 지금 어떻게 되어 있을까요? 주님 없이 우리는 무엇을 할 수 있을까요? 상상조차 할 수 없는 일입니다! |

베드로전서 2:1-10
[1] 그러므로 모든 악독과 모든 기만과 외식과 시기와 모든 비방하는 말을 버리고
[2] 갓난 아기들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 그로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라
[3] 너희가 주의 인자하심을 맛보았으면 그리하라
[4] 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산 돌이신 예수께 나아가
[5] 너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워지고 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 기쁘게 받으실 신령한 제사를 드릴 거룩한 제사장이 될지니라
[6] 성경에 기록되었으되 보라 내가 택한 보배로운 모퉁잇돌을 시온에 두노니 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라 하였으니
[7] 그러므로 믿는 너희에게는 보배이나 믿지 아니하는 자에게는 건축자들이 버린 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되고
[8] 또한 부딪치는 돌과 걸려 넘어지게 하는 바위가 되었다 하였느니라 그들이 말씀을 순종하지 아니하므로 넘어지나니 이는 그들을 이렇게 정하신 것이라
[9] 그러나 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유가 된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 이의 아름다운 덕을 선포하게 하려 하심이라
[10] 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라 |
