 The Los Angeles County Fair is an annual county fair. It was first held on October 17, 1922, and ran for five days through October 21, 1922, in a former beet field in Pomona, California. Highlights of the Fair's first year were harness racing, chariot races and an airplane wing-walking exhibition. The fair is one of the largest county fairs in the U.S. Fair attendance has topped one million people in every year but one since 1948, and is the 4th largest fair in the United States.

올해 87해째를 맞이한 'L.A. County Fair 2015'가 9월 4일부터 27일까지 열린다. 프로그램이 광범위하고 다양한데다 매일 바뀌는 프로그램도 있어서 이 페어그라운드에서 하루 만 보내기엔 좀 아쉽다. 오늘(9월16일) 깃발이 눈에 띠고 먹거리가 보이는 곳을 먼저 찾아 거니는 하루다. 그러다보니 사진이 내가 거닐었던 순서대로 올려졌다. 여기는 남녀노소 누구나가 즐길 수 있는 곳인데 무엇보다도 어린이들에게 체험교육을 시키기에 좋은곳이다. 예를 들자면, 어른들은 맥주나 포도주를 시음하는 기회가 주어지는 대신에 어린이들은 소의 젖이 어떤 과정을 거쳐 우유나 아이스크림으로 우리 식탁에 오르는지 배운다. 그 뿐인가, 어미동물들이 새끼를 낳는 과정도 지켜볼 수 있다. 갖가지 농산물은 물론이고 낙타 처럼 큰 동물에서 파충류까지 볼 수 있으며 박진 넘치는 horse racing과 우수 고등학교의 marching band들이 퍼레이드에 참여해주니 더욱 신나는 fair이다. 자세한 건 여기에...   http://www.lacountyfair.com/schedule_v2

  구름이 끼어서 선선한데도 소문난 집이라기에 아이스크림을 맨 먼저 먹었다.

Mushroom & Purslane

Those 'mushrooms' are actually wild TOXIC toadstools, never to be eaten(못 먹는 독버섯).

오른쪽 밑에 보이는 식물은 미네날이 풍부한 'purslane'인데 셀러드로 먹는다.

사과농원에 메달린 수세미(Luffa aegytiaca, sponge gourd, Egyptian cucumber).

아래 보인 이런 스폰지로 옛날에 고국에서설걷이를 했던 시절이 떠오른다.

팔의 힘을 키워서 옥수수를 재래식으로 갈아보겠다고 준비중이다.

 

 

모두들 뭘 바라보기에 나도 들여다보니  Monarch butterfly caterpillar가 milkweed 꽃 위에서 꿈틀거린다.

 Monarch butterfly는 알을 오로지 milkweed 이파리에 낳는다.

  정오에 입장해서 저녁 7시가 넘어서 나오니 어둡기 시작하고 엷게 노을진 하늘에는 초승달이....

이 달이 다 차오르면 고국에서는 추석명절이다.
