There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1
Today is the first day of spring in the northern half of the world. If you live in Australia, it’s the first day of autumn—the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere and the autumnal equinox in the southern hemisphere. Today, the sun shines directly on the equator, and the hours of daylight and nighttime are nearly equal around the world. New seasons are important for many people. Some count down the day because of what they hope the new season will bring. Perhaps you’ve been marking off a calendar for spring in Wisconsin to signal the end of another winter. Or maybe you live in Melbourne, and you can’t wait for autumn to bring relief from the Australian sun. We also go through seasons of life that don’t have to do with the weather. The author of Ecclesiastes told us there is a season for every activity under the sun—a time appointed by God during which we live our lives(3:1–11). Moses spoke of a new season in his life after he led the people of Israel through the wilderness(Deuteronomy 31:2), and he had to give up his leadership role to Joshua. And Paul faced a lonely season while he was under house arrest in Rome—asking for visitors but realizing that God was “at my side”(2 Timothy 4:17). Regardless of the season of life, let’s give thanks to God for His greatness, His help, and His companionship. Dave Branon

오늘이 지구 북반구에서는 봄의 첫 날입니다. 호주에서는 가을의 첫 날입니다. 북반구에서는 춘분이고 남반구에서는 추분입니다. 오늘 적도에서는 태양이 직각으로 비추고 지구 전체의 낮과 밤의 길이가 거의 같습니다. 많은 사람들에게 새로운 계절이 중요합니다. 어떤 사람은 새 계절에 바라는 것이 있어서 그 날을 손꼽아 기다립니다. 위스콘신에 사는 사람들은 또 하나의 겨울이 끝나고 봄이 오는 것을 달력에 표시해 놓았을지 모릅니다. 멜버른에 사는 사람이라면 아마도 호주의 뜨거운 태양의 더위를 식혀 줄 가을을 매우 기다릴지 모르겠습니다. 우리는 또한 날씨와 관계없는 인생의 시절들을 지납니다. 전도서의 저자는 해 아래의 모든 활동에는 다 때가 있고 그것은 우리가 살아가는 동안 하나님이 정해주신 시간이라고 하였습니다(3:1-11). 이스라엘 백성을 이끌고 광야를 지나온 모세는 자기 인생의 새로운 시절에 대해 말했습니다(신 31:2). 그리고 여호수아에게 지도자의 자리를 넘겨주어야 했습니다. 바울 사도도 로마에서 가택 연급을 당하면서 외로운 시절을 맞았습니다. 그는 사람을 보내달라고 간구하면서도 하나님이 “내 곁에”(딤후 4:17) 계시다는 것을 알았습니다. 우리 인생의 시절과 관계없이 하나님의 위대하심과 도우심과 동행하심에 감사를 드립시다.
• Thank You, Father, for the promise of Your care during this season of my life. You have allowed this circumstance for a good reason. Help me to use this time appointed by You in a way that deepens my trust in You.
Every season brings a reason to rejoice.
1. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 2. a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3. a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4. a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5. a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, 6. a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7. a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8. a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. 9. What does the worker gain from his toil? 10. I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
• 하나님 아버지, 지금 제 인생의 지금 이 시절에 주님이 보살피신다는 약속에 감사드립니다. 하나님은 좋은 뜻이 있으셔서 이 상황을 허락하셨습니다. 하나님이 정하신 이 시기에 당신에 대한 믿음을 다지게 도와주옵소서.
매 계절에는 기뻐할 이유가 있다.
1. 범사에 기한이 있고 천하 만사가 다 때가 있나니 2. 날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있으며 3. 죽일 때가 있고 치료할 때가 있으며 헐 때가 있고 세울 때가 있으며 4. 울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 슬퍼할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며 5. 돌을 던져 버릴 때가 있고 돌을 거둘 때가 있으며 안을 때가 있고 안는 일을 멀리 할 때가 있으며 6. 찾을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며 지킬 때가 있고 버릴 때가 있으며 7. 찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있으며 잠잠할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있으며 8. 사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있으며 전쟁할 때가 있고 평화할 때가 있느니라 9. 일하는 자가 그의 수고로 말미암아 무슨 이익이 있으랴 10. 하나님이 인생들에게 노고를 주사 애쓰게 하신 것을 내가 보았노라 11. 하나님이 모든 것을 지으시되 때를 따라 아름답게 하셨고 또 사람들에게는 영원을 사모하는 마음을 주셨느니라 그러나 하나님이 하시는 일의 시종을 사람으로 측량할 수 없게 하셨도다
Insight: Many believe King Solomon wrote the book of Ecclesiastes because the author refers to himself as the “son of David, king in Jerusalem” (1:1) and “king over Israel in Jerusalem” (v. 12) who had more wisdom and possessions “than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before [him]” (v. 16; 2:7). The book’s purpose seems clear: “It defends the life of faith in a generous God by pointing to the grimness of the alternative” (Michael Easton,Ecclesiastes). Ecclesiastes underscores the necessity and desirability of following God in a fallen and frustrating world today (12:1)—no matter our season in life. “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments” (v. 13).
