Small but Significant 작지만 중요한 [ 2 Corinthians 1:8 - 1:11 ] - hymn 336 On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. 2 Corinthians 1:10–11 The day started out like any other, but it ended as a nightmare. Esther (not her real name) and several hundred women were kidnapped from their boarding school by a religious militant group. A month later all were released—except for Esther who refused to deny Christ. As my friend and I read about her and others who are being persecuted for their faith, our hearts were moved. We wanted to do something. But what? When writing to the Corinthian church, the apostle Paul shared about the trouble he experienced in the province of Asia. The persecution was so severe that he and his companions “despaired of life itself” (2 Corinthians 1:8). However, Paul was helped by the prayers of believers (v. 11). Though the Corinthian church was many miles away from the apostle, their prayers mattered and God heard them. Herein lies an amazing mystery: the sovereign one has chosen to use our prayers to accomplish His purpose. What a privilege! Today we can continue to remember our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering for their faith. There’s something we can do. We can pray for those who are marginalized, oppressed, beaten, tortured, and sometimes even killed for their belief in Christ. Let’s pray for them to experience God’s comfort and encouragement and to be strengthened with hope as they stand firmly with Jesus. —POH FANG CHIA [ 고린도후서 1:8 - 1:11 ] - 찬송가 336 장 앞으로도 건져주실 것이며 또 건져주시리라 믿습니다. 여러분도 기도로 우리를 도와주십시오. 고린도후서 1:10-11, 현대인의 성경 그 날은 평소와 같이 시작됐지만 악몽으로 끝이 났습니다. 어떤 무장 종교단체가 기숙학교에서 에스더(가명)와 다른 수백 명의 여학생들을 납치한 것입니다. 학생들은 한 달 후에 모두 풀려났는데, 에스더만은 그리스도를 부인하기를 거부했기 때문에 제외되었습니다. 친구와 나는 신앙 때문에 박해 받고 있는 에스더와 다른 사람들에 관한 이야기를 읽고는 마음에 감동을 받았습니다. 우리는 뭔가 하기를 원했습니다. 그런데 ‘무엇을’ 해야 하나요? 바울 사도는 고린도 교회에 보낸 편지에서 아시아 지역에서 자신이 겪은 환난에 대해 얘기했습니다. 그 박해가 너무나 가혹해서 그와 동역자들은 “살 소망까지 끊어지고”(고린도후서 1:8) 말았습니다. 그러나 바울은 성도들의 기도의 도움을 받았습니다(11절). 고린도 교회가 비록 바울과는 멀리 떨어져 있었지만 그들의 기도가 중요했기에 하나님이 그것을 들으셨습니다. 여기에 놀라운 비밀이 있습니다. 주권자이신 바로 그 한 분께서 우리의 기도를 사용하여 그분의 목적을 이루시기로 작정하셨다는 것입니다. 이 얼마나 놀라운 특권인지요! 오늘날 우리는 신앙 때문에 고난당하는 그리스도 안에서의 형제자매들을 계속 기억해야 합니다. 우리가 할 수 있는 일이 있습니다. 그리스도를 믿는다는 이유로 무시당하고 억압받으며, 매 맞고 고문당하며, 때로는 죽임까지 당하는 사람들을 위해 우리는 기도해야 합니다. 그들이 하나님의 위로와 격려를 경험하고, 또 예수님과 함께 굳건히 서서 소망 가운데 강건해질 수 있도록 우리 함께 그들을 위해 기도합시다.

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9. But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 10. Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; 11. Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. • 이번 주에 누구의 이름을 놓고 기도하시겠습니까? 박해 받고 있을 때 하나님의 신실하심을 경험해보신 적이 있었습니까? 기도할 때, 우리는 하나님의 능력의 발 앞에 우리 자신을 온전히 맡긴다. 8. 형제들아 우리가 아시아에서 당한 환난을 너희가 모르기를 원하지 아니하노니 힘에 겹도록 심한 고난을 당하여 살 소망까지 끊어지고 9. 우리는 우리 자신이 사형 선고를 받은 줄 알았으니 이는 우리로 자기를 의지하지 말고 오직 죽은 자를 다시 살리시는 하나님만 의지하게 하심이라 10. 그가 이같이 큰 사망에서 우리를 건지셨고 또 건지실 것이며 이 후에도 건지시기를 그에게 바라노라 11. 너희도 우리를 위하여 간구함으로 도우라 이는 우리가 많은 사람의 기도로 얻은 은사로 말미암아 많은 사람이 우리를 위하여 감사하게 하려 함이라
