윌리엄 버틀러 예이츠(William Butler Yeats)
(1865년 6월 13일~1939년 1월 28일)는 아일랜드의 시인이자 극작가로
1923년 노벨 문학상을 수상했으며 노벨 위원회는 "고도의 예술적인 양식으로
전체 나라의 영혼을 표현한 영감을 받은 시"라는 평가를 남겼다.
아일랜드 사람으로는 처음으로 노벨상을 받았다.
예이츠는 노벨상을 수상한 이후에도 자신들의 뛰어난 작품들을
완성해 낸 몇 안되는 작가 중 한 사람이다.

William Butler Yeats (13 June 1865 – 28 January 1939) was an Irish poet and playwright, and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. A pillar of both the Irish and British literary establishments, in his later years he served as an Irish Senator for two terms. Yeats was a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival and, along with Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn, and others, founded the Abby Theatre, where he served as its chief during its early years. In 1923 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature as the first Irishman so honoured for what the Nobel Commitee described as "inspired poetry, which in a highly artistic form gives ｅxpression to the spirit of a whole nation." Yeats is generally considered one of the few writers who completed their greatest works after being awarded the Nobel Prize; such works include The Tower (1928) and The Winding Stair and Other Poems (1929) Yeats was a very good friend of Indian Bengali poet Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
