그리운 사람

(People You Long for)

 

 

우리가 진정으로 만나야 할 사람은

그리운 사람이다.

The kind of people we truly must meet

are people whom we will long for.

 

곁에 있으나 떨어져 있으나

그리움의 물결이 출렁거리는

그런 사람과는 때때로 만나야 한다.

Once in a while, we must meet those who,

whether at our sides, or separated from us,

cause a wave of affection to undulate within.

 

그리워하면서도 만날 수 없으면

삶에 그늘이 진다.

그리움이 따르지 않는 만남은

지극히 사무적인 마주침이거나

일상적인 스치고 지나감이다.

If we are not able to meet, even in the midst of our

   intense longing,

a shadow is cast over our lives.

A meeting not followed by longing

is an exceedingly business-like bumping into one another,

a mundane passing-by.

 

마주침과 스치고 지나감에는

영혼의 울림이 없다.

영혼의 울림이 없으면

만나도 만난 것이 아니다.

 

In crossing paths and glancing off one another,

there is no reverberation of the soul.

Without this echo in our spririt,

though we may meet, there is no real encounter.
