22 May Tue, 2012 FEAR NOT [ Isaiah 43:1 - 43:4 ] - hymn543 Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. - Isaiah 43:1 My wife became seriously ill during her pregnancy with our second child. As the doctors struggled to fi-nd the problem, she continued to grow weaker-dangerously so. Watching her suffer was a helpless and horrible feeling for me, and there were days when it felt as if God were not hearing our prayers. one Sunday, while I was looking for comfort from Scripture, my eyes landed on the first verse in Isaiah 43. “Fear not,” it begins, and ends with “you are Mine.” Instantly, the Holy Spirit made the words personal. The intimate way God addresses Israel reminded me of His always-present attention to us too: “When you pass through the waters ... through the rivers ... through the fire”(v.2). Each phrase rose up in crescendo, from the pages to my heart. Our comfort in that hour came not from promises of healing or miracles, but from knowing we were never alone. We had many other frightening times, including just after Ethan’s birth, when it looked as if both he and Cheryl would be lost. But God had used His words to comfort us and prepare us for those harder moments! [2] When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. [3] For I am the LORD your God, The Holy one of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. [4] Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life.

2012년 05월 22일 (화) 두려워하지 말라 [ 이사야 43:1 - 43:4 ] - 찬송가 543장 너는 두려워하지 말라 내가 너를 구속하였고 내가 너를 지명하여 불렀나니 너는 내 것이라 - 이사야 43:1 내 아내가 둘째 아이를 임신했을 때 아주 심하게 아팠습니다. 의사들이 왜 그런지 알아내려고 애쓰는 동안 아내는 점점 더 약해져 갔고 아주 위험하게 되었습니다. 아내의 괴로움을 지켜보며 내가 할 수 있는 것이 아무것도 없다는 느낌이 들었고 몹시 두려웠습니다. 그리고 마치 하나님이 우리의 기도를 듣고 계시지 않는 것 같이 느껴지는 날들도 있었습니다. 그러던 어느 주일날, 성경 말씀에서 위로를 얻으려 하고 있던 중, 이사야 43장의 첫 구절 말씀이 내 눈에 들어왔습니다. 그 구절은 “너는 두려워하지 말라”라는 말씀으로 시작하여 “너는 내 것이라”라는 말씀으로 끝납니다. 즉시 성령께서 그 구절을 내게 주시는 말씀으로 역사하셨습니다. 하나님이 이스라엘 백성에게 말씀하실 때의 그 친밀함으로 우리에게도 항상 임재하시는 분이심을 내게 상기시켜주었습니다. “네가 물 가운데로 지날 때에 … 강을 건널 때에 … 불 가운데로 지날 때에”(2절). 각 구절들은 성경책에서부터 내 마음으로 점점 더 강하게 차올라왔습니다. 그 시간에 우리에게 임했던 위로는 병이 회복되거나 기적에 대한 약속 때문이 아니라, 우리는 결코 혼자가 아니라는 것을 깨달은 데서 온 것이었습니다. 이튼이 막 태어난 후 아기와 아내를 모두 잃어버릴 것만 같았던 때를 비롯하여 우리는 또 다른 많은 두려운 시간들도 보냈습니다. 그러나 하나님은 말씀을 통하여 우리를 위로해 주시고, 그보다 더 힘든 때를 대비해 우리를 준비시켜 주셨습니다! 이 성경말씀으로 당신은 결코 혼자가 아니라는 것을 기억하십시오.     두려움이 너무도 크게 앞을 가로막을 때 우리는 하나님이 가까이 계시다는 증거를 간절히 원하네 바로 그때 우리 아버지께서 말씀하시네 “내 아이야, 믿고 두려워하지 말라.”   밝을 때에 당신이 알던 진리를 어두울 때에도 잊지 말라.   이사야 43:1-4 [1] 야곱아 너를 창조하신 여호와께서 지금 말씀하시느니라 이스라엘아 너를 지으신 이가 말씀하시느니라 너는 두려워하지 말라 내가 너를 구속하였고 내가 너를 지명하여 불렀나니 너는 내 것이라 [2] 네가 물 가운데로 지날 때에 내가 함께 할 것이라 강을 건널 때에 물이 너를 침몰하지 못할 것이며 네가 불 가운데로 지날 때에 타지도 아니할 것이요 불꽃이 너를 사르지도 못하리니 [3] 대저 나는 여호와 네 하나님이요 이스라엘의 거룩한 이요 네 구원자임이라 내가 애굽을 너의 속량물로, 구스와 스바를 너를 대신하여 주었노라 [4] 네가 내 눈에 보배롭고 존귀하며 내가 너를 사랑하였은즉 내가 네 대신 사람들을 내어 주며 백성들이 네 생명을 대신하리니
