| STAND OR GO? |

| Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” -Exodus 14:13 |
The Israelites were trapped. Soon after leaving slavery and Egypt behind, they looked up and saw a distressing sight. A cloud of dust was moving their way, and in that dust was a massive army. Pharaoh’s “disease” had returned-hardening of the heart(Ex. 14:8). As a result, he sent his chariots after Moses and his people.
Once the Egyptian army caught up with the Israelites, all seemed lost. They were trapped between a wall of soldiers and a sea of water. In panic, they cried out to both Moses and God.
Both of them responded with instructions. Moses said, “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord”(14:13). And God told them, “Go forward”(v.15). While that may seem to be contradictory advice, both commands were from God and right. First, the people had to “stand still” or “firm” long enough to get instructions from God. What if they had rushed headlong into the Red Sea without consulting the Lord? But in standing still, they heard God’s instructions, which included both what they were to do-move on, and what Moses was to do-stretch out his hand over the sea in obedience and God would part the waters.
Do circumstances have you trapped? Stand still. Take time to consult God and His Word. Then, using His instructions, move ahead and let God guide you. -Dave Branon |

Exodus 14:5-22
[5] Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people; and they said, "Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?"
[6] So he made ready his chariot and took his people with him.
[7] Also, he took six hundred choice chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt with captains over every one of them.
[8] And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with boldness.
[9] So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.
[10] And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.
[11] Then they said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt?
[12] "Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness."
[13] And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.
[14] "The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
[15] And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
[16] "But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
[17] "And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen.
[18] "Then the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen."
[19] And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them.
[20] So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.
[21] Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.
[22] So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. | |

이스라엘 백성들은 궁지에 몰리게 되었습니다. 노예생활과 애굽을 뒤에 남기고 떠난지 얼마 되지 않아 그들은 절망스러운 광경을 목격했습니다. 먼지구름이 그들 쪽으로 움직이고 있었으며 그 먼지구름 속에는 엄청난 군대가 있었습니다. 바로의 “병”이 재발되어 그의 마음이 완악해진 것입니다(출 14:8). 그래서 그는 전차를 보내어 모세와 이스라엘 백성들을 뒤쫓았습니다.
애굽 군대가 이스라엘 백성들을 따라잡자, 모든 것이 다 끝난 것처럼 보였습니다. 백성들은 벽 같이 둘러싼 군사들과 바닷물 사이에서 꼼짝 못하게 되어버렸습니다. 그들은 두려워하여 모세와 하나님께 부르짖었습니다.
모세와 하나님 둘 다 지시하는 형식으로 응답했습니다. 모세는 “가만히 서서 여호와께서 … 행하시는 구원을 보라”(14:13)라고 말했습니다. 그리고 하나님은 그들에게 “앞으로 나아가라”(15절)라고 말했습니다. 그것은 서로 모순되는 충고처럼 보였지만, 두 명령 다 하나님으로부터 나왔고, 또 옳은 것이었습니다. 먼저, 백성들은 “가만히 서 있거나”, 하나님의 지시를 받을 때까지 오랫동안 “흔들리지 않고 있어야” 했습니다. 만일 그들이 하나님의 지시 없이 홍해로 달려 들어갔으면 어떻게 되었겠습니까? 그러나 그들은 가만히 서 있으면서 그들이 해야 할 일, 즉 앞으로 나아가는 것과, 모세의 할 일, 즉 그가 순종하여 바다 위로 손을 뻗치면 하나님이 물을 갈라놓으실 것이라는 하나님의 지시를 들었습니다.
환경이 당신을 사로잡고 있습니까? 가만히 서서 하나님과 그분의 말씀을 듣는 시간을 가지십시오. 그러고 나서 하나님의 지시에 따라 앞으로 나가면서 주님이 당신을 인도하도록 하십시오. |

출애굽기 14:5-22
[5] 그 백성이 도망한 사실이 애굽 왕에게 알려지매 바로와 그의 신하들이 그 백성에 대하여 마음이 변하여 이르되 우리가 어찌 이같이 하여 이스라엘을 우리를 섬김에서 놓아 보내었는가 하고
[6] 바로가 곧 그의 병거를 갖추고 그의 백성을 데리고 갈새
[7] 선발된 병거 육백 대와 애굽의 모든 병거를 동원하니 지휘관들이 다 거느렸더라
[8] 여호와께서 애굽 왕 바로의 마음을 완악하게 하셨으므로 그가 이스라엘 자손의 뒤를 따르니 이스라엘 자손이 담대히 나갔음이라
[9] 애굽 사람들과 바로의 말들, 병거들과 그 마병과 그 군대가 그들의 뒤를 따라 바알스본 맞은편 비하히롯 곁 해변 그들이 장막 친 데에 미치니라
[10] 바로가 가까이 올 때에 이스라엘 자손이 눈을 들어본즉 애굽 사람들이 자기들 뒤에 이른지라 이스라엘 자손이 심히 두려워하여 여호와께 부르짖고
[11] 그들이 또 모세에게 이르되 애굽에 매장지가 없어서 당신이 우리를 이끌어 내어 이 광야에서 죽게 하느냐 어찌하여 당신이 우리를 애굽에서 이끌어 내어 우리에게 이같이 하느냐
[12] 우리가 애굽에서 당신에게 이른 말이 이것이 아니냐 이르기를 우리를 내버려 두라 우리가 애굽 사람을 섬길 것이라 하지 아니하더냐 애굽 사람을 섬기는 것이 광야에서 죽는 것보다 낫겠노라
[13] 모세가 백성에게 이르되 너희는 두려워하지 말고 가만히 서서 여호와께서 오늘 너희를 위하여 행하시는 구원을 보라 너희가 오늘 본 애굽 사람을 영원히 다시 보지 아니하리라
[14] 여호와께서 너희를 위하여 싸우시리니 너희는 가만히 있을지니라
[15] 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 어찌하여 내게 부르짖느냐 이스라엘 자손에게 명령하여 앞으로 나아가게 하고
[16] 지팡이를 들고 손을 바다 위로 내밀어 그것이 갈라지게 하라 이스라엘 자손이 바다 가운데서 마른 땅으로 행하리라
[17] 내가 애굽 사람들의 마음을 완악하게 할 것인즉 그들이 그 뒤를 따라 들어갈 것이라 내가 바로와 그의 모든 군대와 그의 병거와 마병으로 말미암아 영광을 얻으리니
[18] 내가 바로와 그의 병거와 마병으로 말미암아 영광을 얻을 때에야 애굽 사람들이 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라 하시더니
[19] 이스라엘 진 앞에 가던 하나님의 사자가 그들의 뒤로 옮겨가매 구름 기둥도 앞에서 그 뒤로 옮겨
[20] 애굽 진과 이스라엘 진 사이에 이르러 서니 저쪽에는 구름과 흑암이 있고 이쪽에는 밤이 밝으므로 밤새도록 저쪽이 이쪽에 가까이 못하였더라
[21] 모세가 바다 위로 손을 내밀매 여호와께서 큰 동풍이 밤새도록 바닷물을 물러가게 하시니 물이 갈라져 바다가 마른 땅이 된지라
[22] 이스라엘 자손이 바다 가운데를 육지로 걸어가고 물은 그들의 좌우에 벽이 되니 | |
