03 August Fri, 2012 Faith With Works [ James 2:14 - 2:26 ] - hymn463 Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. — James 2:17 Because of his arthritis, Roger could no longer handle the winters of Illinois, so he moved to tropical Bangkok, Thailand. one day he remembered his grandmother’s favorite song, “What You Are”: What you are speaks so loud that the world can’t hear what you say; they’re looking at your walk, not listening to your talk; they’re judging from your actions every day.  This song prompted Roger to feed the homeless who stayed along a half-mile stretch of road. Every morning, he served hot food to more than 45 families. Years later, one of the homeless women came to know Jesus as Savior and sought out Roger to thank him for introducing her to the love of Christ. In James, we are clearly told that faith without works is dead (2:17). It does not mean that works will result in faith, but that good works will affirm that our faith is real. It is easy to say we believe in God, but only our works can prove the truthfulness of our words. Abraham was an example of this. He didn’t just talk about his faith; he demonstrated it by his willingness to give up his only son in obedience to God (James 2:21-24; see Gen. 22:1-18). And Isaac was spared. Today, how can we actively demonstrate our love for God and trust in Him?     Faith is the power that prompts us to goAnd give to the hungering, bread—Faith means much more than a doctrine or two,For faith without works is dead. — Woodrum What matters is not faith and works; it is not faith or works; it is faith that works. James 2:14-26 [14] What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? [15] If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, [16] and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? [17] Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. [18] But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. [19] You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! [20] But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? [21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? [22] Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? [23] And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." And he was called the friend of God. [24] You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. [25] Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? [26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

2012년 08월 03일 (금) 행함이 있는 믿음 [ 야고보서 2:14 - 2:26 ] - 찬송가 463장 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라 - 야고보서 2:17 관절염을 앓고 있는 로저는 일리노이 주의 추운 겨울을 지내기가 어려워 열대지방인 태국의 방콕으로 이사를 했습니다. 어느 날 그는 그의 할머니가 즐겨 부르던 “네 모습”이라는 노래가 기억났습니다. “네 모습이 내는 소리가 너무 커서, 세상은 네가 말하는 것은 듣지 못해. 세상은 네 삶을 쳐다보지, 네 말을 듣는 것이 아니야. 그들은 매일 매일 네 행동을 보고 판단하고 있어.” 이 노래에 감동을 받은 로저는 약 800미터의 도로변 노숙자들에게 음식을 제공하기로 결심하였습니다. 매일 아침, 그는 45가정 이상의 사람들에게 따뜻한 음식을 제공하였습니다. 몇 년이 지난 후, 한 노숙자 여인이 예수님을 구주로 영접하고, 로저를 찾아와 자기에게 그리스도의 사랑을 알게 해 준 것에 감사하였습니다. 야고보서는 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라고 우리에게 분명히 말하고 있습니다(2:17). 그 말은 행함이 믿음을 낳게 한다는 말이 아니라, 선한 일은 우리의 믿음이 진실하다는 것을 확인해준다는 말입니다. 하나님을 믿는다고 말하기는 쉽습니다. 그러나 우리의 행함만이 우리가 하는 말의 진실성을 증명할 수 있습니다. 아브라함이 그 한 예입니다. 그는 그의 믿음을 말로만 하지 않고, 하나님께 순종하여 자신의 외아들을 기꺼이 포기하려 함으로써 그의 믿음을 보여주었습니다(약 2:21-24; 창 22:1-18 참조). 그리고 물론 이삭도 죽지 않았습니다. 오늘, 우리는 하나님에 대한 사랑과 그분을 향한 신뢰를 어떻게 적극적으로 증명할 수 있을까요?     믿음은 우리로 하여금 나가서 굶주린 자에게 빵을 주게 하는 능력이라네 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 믿음이기에 믿음은 교리를 아는 것 이상으로 엄청난 것이라네   중요한 것은 ‘믿음 또는 행함’도 아니고 ‘믿음과 행함’도 아니며, ‘행함이 있는 믿음’이다. 야고보서 2:14-26 [14] 내 형제들아 만일 사람이 믿음이 있노라 하고 행함이 없으면 무슨 유익이 있으리요 그 믿음이 능히 자기를 구원하겠느냐 [15] 만일 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 일용할 양식이 없는데 [16] 너희 중에 누구든지 그에게 이르되 평안히 가라, 덥게 하라, 배부르게 하라 하며 그 몸에 쓸 것을 주지 아니하면 무슨 유익이 있으리요 [17] 이와 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라 [18] 어떤 사람은 말하기를 너는 믿음이 있고 나는 행함이 있으니 행함이 없는 네 믿음을 내게 보이라 나는 행함으로 내 믿음을 네게 보이리라 하리라 [19] 네가 하나님은 한 분이신 줄을 믿느냐 잘하는도다 귀신들도 믿고 떠느니라 [20] 아아 허탄한 사람아 행함이 없는 믿음이 헛것인 줄을 알고자 하느냐 [21] 우리 조상 아브라함이 그 아들 이삭을 제단에 바칠 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐 [22] 네가 보거니와 믿음이 그의 행함과 함께 일하고 행함으로 믿음이 온전하게 되었느니라 [23] 이에 성경에 이른 바 이브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 이것을 의로 여기셨다는 말씀이 이루어졌고 그는 하나님의 벗이라 칭함을 받았나니 [24] 이로 보건대 사람이 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받고 믿음으로만은 아니니라 [25] 또 이와 같이 기생 라합이 사자들을 접대하여 다른 길로 나가게 할 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐 [26] 영혼 없는 몸이 죽은 것 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 것이니라
