And you ... He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight. — Colossians 1:21-22
We refer to Christmas as the season of giving. Most of us try hard to find gifts that friends and family will like, but not all gifts are equal. Some gifts come with a subtle hint, like an exercise machine or a book about weight loss. Other gifts are those that the giver really wants for himself. But the best gifts are those that come from someone who loves us and knows what we want.
Last Christmas, my pastor, Jim Samra, challenged us to think about Christ’s coming in another way. We know that Jesus was God’s perfect gift to us (Rom.6:23), but Pastor Jim added another thought. He said that His coming to earth could also be looked at as a gift that Jesus gave to His Father. Jesus loved His Father and knew that what He wanted more than anything else was for us, His creation, to be reconciled to Him. Through His incarnation, Jesus made it possible for us to be a holy and blameless present to God (Col.1:22).
Thinking of ourselves as a gift to God makes us want to be a present worth the cost, “fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (v.10).
Dear Lord, from whom all blessings flow, Most precious gifts dost Thou bestow; So truly faithful may I be As Thou art gracious unto me. — Roworth
God’s highest Gift should awaken our deepest gratitude.
Colossians 1:19-27
[19] For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, [20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. [21] once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. [22] But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- [23] if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. [24] Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. [25] I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness-- [26] the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. [27] To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

선물
[ 골로새서 1:19 - 1:27 ] - 찬송가96장
너희를 이제는 그의 육체의 죽음으로 말미암아 화목하게 하사 너희를 거룩하고 흠 없고 책망할 것이 없는 자로 그 앞에 세우고자 하셨으니 - 골로새서 1:21-22
우리는 성탄절을 선물하는 절기라고 여기고 있습니다. 우리 대부분은 친구들과 가족들이 좋아하는 선물들을 구하려고 무척 애를 쓰지만, 모든 선물이 똑같지는 않습니다. 운동기구나 체중감소에 관한 책처럼 무언가 넌지시 암시하는 선물이 있고, 선물 주는 사람이 오히려 갖고 싶어 하는 선물도 있습니다. 그러나 최고의 선물은 우리를 사랑하고 우리가 무엇을 원하는지를 잘 아는 사람이 주는 선물입니다.
작년 성탄절 때, 우리 교회의 짐 삼라 목사님이 우리에게 예수님이 오신 것을 다른 각도로 생각해보라고 도전을 주었습니다. 우리는 예수님이 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 완전한 선물(롬 6:23)이라고 알고 있지만, 삼라 목사님은 거기에다 다른 개념을 덧붙였습니다. 예수님이 세상에 오신 것은 예수님이 하늘에 계신 아버지께 드린 선물로도 볼 수 있다는 것입니다. 예수님은 성부 하나님을 사랑하셨고, 성부 하나님이 무엇보다 바라는 것이 그분의 창조물인 우리가 하나님과 다시 화목케 되는 것임을 아셨습니다. 그래서 예수님은 육신을 입고 오셔서 우리가 하나님 앞에 흠 없고 책망할 것이 없는 자로 설 수 있게 하셨습니다(골 1:22).
우리 자신을 하나님께 드리는 선물이라고 생각한다면 우리는 우리 자신이 “범사에 기쁘시게 하고 모든 선한 일에 열매를 맺게 하시며 하나님을 아는 것에 자라가는”(10절)가는 훌륭한 선물이 되기를 원하게 될 것입니다.
모든 축복이 흘러나오는 사랑하는 주님, 주님은 가장 고귀한 선물을 우리에게 주십니다 주님이 제게 자비로우시기 때문에 저도 진심으로 신실하기 원합니다.
하나님으로부터 최고의 선물을 받은 우리는 마땅히 가장 깊은 감사를 하나님께 드려야 한다.
골로새서 1:19-27
