| Gifted To Serve |

It occurred to me one day that my right foot does all the pedal work when I’m driving my automatic transmission car. It alone works the accelerator and the brake. The left foot is idle. What happens if I decide that to be equitable, my left foot ought to replace my right foot half the time when I am driving? If you have never done so, please don’t try it!
If we don’t require such equality of the members of our own body, why is it that we sometimes expect it of people in the church? That seems to be an issue that the first-century church at Rome faced. Some were thinking more highly of themselves than they ought (Rom. 12:3) just because they were doing some things others were not doing. But Paul reminds us that “all members do not have the same function” (v.4). We’ve been gifted according to God’s grace (v.6). He gave us those gifts to serve others, not ourselves (vv.6-13). Our service is to be marked by diligence and fervor, for we are serving the Lord, not man (v.11).
So, let’s not look over our shoulders to see what others are doing or not doing. Look at how God may be able to use you in His kingdom today. He has gifted you just as He has pleased (v.3). |
Romans 12:3-13
[3] For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
[4] Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
[5] so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
[6] We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.
[7] If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;
[8] if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
[9] Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
[10] Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
[11] Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
[12] Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
[13] Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. | |

| 섬기라고 받은 은사 |

| 또 사역은 여러 가지나 모든 것을 모든 사람 가운데서 이루시는 하나님은 같으니 - 고린도전서 12:6 |
자동변속기 차량을 운전하면서 오른쪽 발이 페달 밟는 일들을 도맡아 하고 있다는 것을 어느 날 알게 되었습니다. 한쪽 발이 가속기와 브레이크를 밟는 일을 다 하고, 왼쪽 발은 놀고 있습니다. 공평하게 하느라고 내 왼쪽 발과 오른쪽 발을 번갈아 쓰면서 운전을 한다면 어떻게 될까요? 그렇게 해본 적이 없다면, 절대 하지 마십시오!
우리가 우리 몸의 지체는 그렇게 동등하기를 요구하지 않으면서, 왜 종종 교회에서는 사람들이 서로 동등하기를 바라는 것일까요? 로마에 있는 초대교회도 아마 이 문제에 당면하고 있었던 것 같습니다. 어떤 이들은 다른 사람들이 하지 않는 것을 하고 있다는 이유로 필요 이상의 자부심을 갖고 있었습니다(롬 12:3). 그러나 바울은 “모든 지체가 같은 기능을 가진 것이 아니라는”(4절) 것을 상기시켜줍니다. 우리는 하나님의 은혜대로 은사를 받았습니다(6절). 하나님은 다른 사람을 섬기라고 은사를 주셨지 우리 자신을 돌보라고 주시지 않았습니다(6-13절). 우리의 섬김은 사람이 아닌 주님을 섬기는 일이기에 부지런함과 열정으로 해야 합니다(11절).
그러므로 다른 사람들이 무엇을 하는지 하지 않는지를 넘겨보지 맙시다. 대신 오늘 하나님이 당신을 하나님나라에서 어떻게 쓰실 수 있을까를 살피십시오. 하나님은 그의 기뻐하심대로 당신에게 은사를 주셨습니다(3절). |

제게 주신 은사들을 다른 사람들의 삶을 격려하는 일에 사용하소서. 저로 하여금 다른 사람들과 비교하지 않게 도와주시고, 주님이 원하시는 대로 만드신

로마서 12:3-13
[3] 내게 주신 은혜로 말미암아 너희 각 사람에게 말하노니 마땅히 생각할 그 이상의 생각을 품지 말고 오직 하나님께서 각 사람에게 나누어 주신 믿음의 분량대로 지혜롭게 생각하라
[4] 우리가 한 몸에 많은 지체를 가졌으나 모든 지체가 같은 기능을 가진 것이 아니니
[5] 이와 같이 우리 많은 사람이 그리스도 안에서 한 몸이 되어 서로 지체가 되었느니라
[6] 우리에게 주신 은혜대로 받은 은사가 각각 다르니 혹 예언이면 믿음의 분수대로,
[7] 혹 섬기는 일이면 섬기는 일로, 혹 가르치는 자면 가르치는 일로,
[8] 혹 위로하는 자면 위로하는 일로, 구제하는 자는 성실함으로, 다스리는 자는 부지런함으로, 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 즐거움으로 할 것이니라
[9] 사랑에는 거짓이 없나니 악을 미워하고 선에 속하라
[10] 형제를 사랑하여 서로 우애하고 존경하기를 서로 먼저 하며
[11] 부지런하여 게으르지 말고 열심을 품고 주를 섬기라
