McCasland | | | The Power Of Compassion | | [ Isaiah 42:1 - 42:9 ] - hymn86 | | | A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench. — Isaiah 42:3 | Francis Schaeffer(1912-1984), author and Christian apologist, struggled to spell words correctly because of dyslexia. At the college he attended, spelling errors lowered the grade on all written assignments. During his first year, a professor told Schaeffer, “This is the best philosophy paper I’ve ever read, but it’s the worst spelling. What am I going to do? I can’t pass you.”
Francis replied, “Sir, I could never spell. Could you please just read what I’m saying and not worry about the spelling?”
After a long pause, the professor replied, “You know, Mr. Schaeffer, I think we’ll do that.” His wise, compassionate response encouraged a gifted young man who would later help many of the searching generation during the 1960s and 70s to find their way to faith in Christ.
Isaiah said of the promised Messiah, “A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth”(Isa.42:3). The image is of a gentle, yet powerful Person who sets prisoners free and encourages those who are fainthearted and tempted to despair.
Jesus came to free us from sin, not to condemn us for our condition. Today, He offers salvation and encouragement to all who turn to Him. |

Isaiah 42:1-9
[1] "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations.
[2] He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.
[3] A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
[4] he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his law the islands will put their hope."
[5] This is what God the LORD says--he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it:
[6] "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles,
[7] to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
[8] "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.
[9] See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you." |
| | 2013년 08월 10일 (토) | | | 연민의 힘 | | [ 이사야 42:1 - 42:9 ] - 찬송가 86장 | | | 상한 갈대를 꺾지 아니하며 꺼져가는 등불을 끄지 아니하고 진실로 정의를 시행할 것이며 - 이사야 42:3 | 작가이자 기독교 변증가인 프란시스 쉐퍼는 난독증으로 인해 단어 철자를 제대로 쓰지 못했습니다. 그는 대학시절 단어 철자를 잘못 써서 모든 논술 과제물에서 낮은 점수를 받았습니다. 그가 일 학년 때 한 교수는 쉐퍼에게 이렇게 말했습니다. “이것은 내가 지금까지 읽은 철학 논술 중 가장 훌륭한 것이지만, 맞춤법은 최악이라네. 어떻게 하면 좋을까? 아무래도 학점을 줄 수가 없겠네.”
그때 프란시스는 이렇게 대답했습니다. “교수님, 저는 평생 글자를 바르게 쓸 수 없습니다. 맞춤법은 신경 쓰지 마시고 제가 말하고자 하는 뜻만 읽어주시면 안 될까요?”
한참을 침묵한 후 교수가 대답했습니다. “알겠네, 쉐퍼군. 그렇게 해보겠네.” 그의 지혜롭고 연민에 찬 대답은 한 재능 있는 청년에게 용기를 북돋아주었고, 이후 쉐퍼는 1960년대와 70년대에 많은 방황하던 세대를 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로 인도하는 데 도움을 주었습니다.
이사야는 약속된 메시아에 대해 “상한 갈대를 꺾지 아니하며 꺼져가는 등불을 끄지 아니하고 진실로 정의를 시행할 것이며”(사 42:3)라고 말했습니다. 이 말씀에 나타난 메시아의 상은 죄수들에게 자유를 주고 연약하고 절망에 빠지기 쉬운 사람들에게 용기를 주시는, 온화하면서도 강한 인격자의 모습입니다.
예수님은 우리를 죄로부터 자유롭게 하려고 오셨지, 우리의 상황을 책망하려고 오신 게 아닙니다. 오늘날 예수님은 주님에게 오는 모든 사람들에게 구원과 용기를 주십니다. |

[1] 내가 붙드는 나의 종, 내 마음에 기뻐하는 자 곧 내가 택한 사람을 보라 내가 나의 영을 그에게 주었은즉 그가 이방에 정의를 베풀리라
[2] 그는 외치지 아니하며 목소리를 높이지 아니하며 그 소리를 거리에 들리게 하지 아니하며
[3] 상한 갈대를 꺾지 아니하며 꺼져가는 등불을 끄지 아니하고 진실로 정의를 시행할 것이며
[4] 그는 쇠하지 아니하며 낙담하지 아니하고 세상에 정의를 세우기에 이르리니 섬들이 그 교훈을 앙망하리라
[5] 하늘을 창조하여 펴시고 땅과 그 소산을 내시며 땅 위의 백성에게 호흡을 주시며 땅에 행하는 자에게 영을 주시는 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시되
