December 30, 2013 — by Bill Crowder Mixed Emotions [ Revelation 21:1 - 21:7 ] - hymn412 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief. — Proverbs 14:13 For Marlene and me, “mixed emotions” precisely describes our wedding. Don’t take that the wrong way. It was a wonderful event that we continue to celebrate more than 35 years later. The wedding celebration, however, was dampened because Marlene’s mom died of cancer just weeks before. Marlene’s aunt was a wonderful stand-in as the “mother of the bride,” but, in the midst of our happiness, something clearly wasn’t right. Mom was missing, and that affected everything. That experience typifies life in a broken world. Our experiences here are a mixed bag of good and bad, joy and pain—a reality that Solomon expressed when he wrote, “Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief”(Prov.14:13). The merry heart often does grieve, for that is what this life sometimes demands. Thankfully, however, this life is not all there is. And in the life that is to come, those who know Christ have a promise: “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away”(Rev.21:4). In that great day, there will be no mixed emotions—only hearts filled with the presence of God!     Peace! peace! wonderful peace, Coming down from the Father above, Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray, In fathomless billows of love. — W. Revelation 21:1-7 [1] Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. [2] Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. [4] "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." [5] Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." [6] And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. [7] "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

2013년 12월 30일 (월) 복잡한 심경 [ 요한계시록 21:1 - 21:7 ] - 찬송가 412장 웃을 때에도 마음에 슬픔이 있고 즐거움의 끝에도 근심이 있느니라 - 잠언 14:13 말린과 나에게 있어서 우리의 결혼식은 “복잡한 심경”이라는 말로 정확하게 묘사할 수 있습니다. 그러나 오해는 하지 마십시오. 결혼식은 훌륭했었고 우리는 결혼 35주년이 되는 지금까지도 잘 지내고 있습니다. 그러나 결혼식 몇 주 전에 말린의 어머니가 암으로 돌아가셔서 결혼의 기쁨이 많이 꺾였습니다. 말린의 이모가 “신부의 어머니” 대역을 훌륭히 하셨고 우리는 행복했지만, 무언가 빠진 것 같았습니다. 말린은 어머니를 잃었고 그것이 모든 것에 영향을 미쳤습니다. 그 경험은 이 불완전한 세상에서 사는 삶의 특징을 보여줍니다. 이 세상에서 겪는 우리의 경험은 좋은 것과 나쁜 것, 즐거움과 고통이 함께 들어있는 주머니 같습니다. 솔로몬은 그런 현실을 이렇게 표현했습니다. “웃을 때에도 마음에 슬픔이 있고 즐거움의 끝에도 근심이 있느니라”(잠 14:13). 즐거운 마음도 종종 비탄에 잠기게 됩니다. 왜냐하면 이 땅에서의 삶이 때때로 그것을 요구하기 때문입니다. 그러나 감사하게도 이 땅에서 사는 삶이 전부가 아닙니다. 그리고 앞으로 올 삶에서는 그리스도를 알고 있는 사람들에게는 하나님이 “모든 눈물을 그 눈에서 닦아주시니 다시 사망이 없고 애통하는 것이나 곡하는 것이나 아픈 것이 다시 있지 아니하리니 처음 것들이 다 지나갔음 이러라”(계 21:4)라는 약속이 주어져 있습니다. 그 놀라운 날에는 더 이상 복잡한 심경은 없이 다만 하나님의 임재로 충만한 마음만 있을 것입니다!     평화 평화로다 하늘 위에서 내려오네 그 사랑의 물결이 영원토록 내 영혼을 덮으소서. — W.
