Is there anything too hard for Me? — Jeremiah 32:27 In the Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, author Luo Guanzhong describes the “Empty Fort Strategy,” a use of reverse psychology to deceive the enemy. When 150,000 troops from the Wei Kingdom reached Xicheng, which had less than 2,500 soldiers, they found the city gate wide open and the famous military tactician Zhuge Liang calmly playing the zither with two children beside him. The Wei general, baffled by the scene and believing it was an ambush, ordered a full retreat. The Bible offers another example of a bewildering battle strategy. In Judges 7, God had Gideon use 300 men, horns, jars, and blazing torches against armies that were “as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number”(v.12). Could Israel defeat such a formidable foe? It was humanly impossible! They had neither the manpower nor the military hardware. But they had one thing that worked for them and that was all they needed. They had God’s promise: “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory”(v.7 nlt). The result? Victory! Are you facing a formidable challenge? The Lord has said, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”(Jer.32:27).     Be strong in the Lord and be of good courage; Your mighty Defender is always the same. Judges 7:2-8 [2] And the LORD said to Gideon, "The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me.' [3] "Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, 'Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.'" And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained. [4] But the LORD said to Gideon, "The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, 'This one shall go with you,' the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, 'This one shall not go with you,' the same shall not go." [5] So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, "Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink." [6] And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. [7] Then the LORD said to Gideon, "By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place." [8] So the people took provisions and their trumpets in their hands. And he sent away all the rest of Israel, every man to his tent, and retained those three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was below him in the valley.

2014년 02월 24일 (월) 공성계(空城計) [ 사사기 7:2 - 7:8 ] - 찬송가 354장 나는 여호와요 모든 육체의 하나님이라 내게 할 수 없는 일이 있겠느냐 - 예레미야 32:27 중국 역사 소설 「삼국지연의」에서 저자 나관중은 적을 속이기 위해 반대심리를 이용하는 “공성계(空城計)”를 묘사하고 있습니다. 위나라의 15만 병력이 2,500명도 채 안 되는 군인이 주둔한 서 성에 도달했을 때, 성문이 활짝 열려 있고 유명한 군사전략가 제갈량이 두 아이들 옆에서 조용히 거문고를 타고 있는 것을 발견했습니다. 위나라 장수는 이 장면을 보고 당황해서 적들이 매복해 있을 것이라 생각하고 총 퇴각 명령을 내렸습니다. 성경은 이상한 전투전략의 또 다른 예를 제공합니다. 사사기 7장에서 하나님은 기드온에게 300명의 사람과 나팔, 항아리, 횃불을 사용하여 “메뚜기의 많은 수와 같고 그들의 낙타의 수가 많은”(12절) 적군을 상대하라고 하셨습니다. 이스라엘이 그처럼 막강한 적을 물리칠 수 있었을까요? 그것은 인력으로는 불가능한 일이었습니다! 그들에게는 병력도 무기도 없었습니다. 하지만 한 가지 그들을 위한 것이 있었고 그것이면 충분했습니다. 그들에게는 “삼백 명으로 너희를 구원하며 미디안을 네 손에 넘겨주리니”(7절)라는 하나님의 약속이 있었던 것입니다. 결과가 어땠을까요? 승리였습니다! 당신이 엄청난 도전에 직면해 있습니까? 주님께서 말씀하셨습니다. “나는 여호와요 모든 육체의 하나님이라 내게 할 수 없는 일이 있겠느냐”(렘 32:27).     주 안에서 강하고 담대하라 당신의 위대한 보호자는 언제나 동일하시니 독수리처럼 날개 치며 날아오르라 주님의 이름을 부를 때 확실히 승리할지니. — Linda Lee Johnson [1947~] 하나님과 함께하면 모든 것이 가능하다. 사사기 7:2-8 [2] 여호와께서 기드온에게 이르시되 너를 따르는 백성이 너무 많은즉 내가 그들의 손에 미디안 사람을 넘겨 주지 아니하리니 이는 이스라엘이 나를 거슬러 스스로 자랑하기를 내 손이 나를 구원하였다 할까 함이니라 [3] 이제 너는 백성의 귀에 외쳐 이르기를 누구든지 두려워 떠는 자는 길르앗 산을 떠나 돌아가라 하라 하시니 이에 돌아간 백성이 이만 이천 명이요 남은 자가 만 명이었더라 [4] 여호와께서 또 기드온에게 이르시되 백성이 아직도 많으니 그들을 인도하여 물 가로 내려가라 거기서 내가 너를 위하여 그들을 시험하리라 내가 누구를 가리켜 네게 이르기를 이 사람이 너와 함께 가리라 하면 그는 너와 함께 갈 것이요 내가 누구를 가리켜 네게 이르기를 이 사람은 너와 함께 가지 말 것이니라 하면 그는 가지 말 것이니라 하신지라 [5] 이에 백성을 인도하여 물 가에 내려가매 여호와께서 기드온에게 이르시되 누구든지 개가 핥는 것 같이 혀로 물을 핥는 자들을 너는 따로 세우고 또 누구든지 무릎을 꿇고 마시는 자들도 그와 같이 하라 하시더니 [6] 손으로 움켜 입에 대고 핥는 자의 수는 삼백 명이요 그 외의 백성은 다 무릎을 꿇고 물을 마신지라 [7] 여호와께서 기드온에게 이르시되 내가 이 물을 핥아 먹은 삼백 명으로 너희를 구원하며 미디안을 네 손에 넘겨 주리니 남은 백성은 각각 자기의 처소로 돌아갈 것이니라 하시니 [8] 이에 백성이 양식과 나팔을 손에 든지라 기드온이 이스라엘 모든 백성을 각각 그의 장막으로 돌려보내고 그 삼백 명은 머물게 하니라 미디안 진영은 그 아래 골짜기 가운데에 있었더라
