| Not Lost In Translation |

| [The Spirit] makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. — Romans 8:27 |
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach the Bible to many people around the world. Because I can speak only English, I often work with interpreters who can take the words of my heart and translate them into the language of the people. Effective communication is directly dependent upon the skill of these translators. Whether it is Inawaty in Indonesia, Annie in Malaysia, or Jean in Brazil, they ensure that the meaning of my words is clearly expressed.
This work of translation resembles one facet of the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of God’s people. In our times of prayer, we don’t always know how we should pray (Rom.8:26), and verse 27 encourages us, saying, “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” When we go to our heavenly Father in prayer, the Holy Spirit comes to our aid by translating our prayers according to God’s good purposes for our lives.
What a provision! Not only does God desire for us to share our hearts with Him, He even provides us with the greatest interpreter to help us as we pray. We can be sure that our prayers will never get lost in translation. |

Thank You, Father, for the provision of Your Spirit.
I’m grateful that when I pray I can rest in Your help
to make my prayers what they need to be.
Teach me tolean on His perfect understanding of
Your desires. |

Romans 8:19-27
[19] For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
[20] For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
[21] because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
[22] For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
[23] Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
[24] For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
[25] But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
[26] Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
[27] Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. | |

| 성령이 하나님의 뜻대로 성도를 위하여 간구하심이니라 - 로마서 8:27 |
오랫동안 나에게는 세계 곳곳에서 많은 사람들에게 성경을 가르칠 기회가 있었습니다. 나는 영어 밖에 할 줄 모르기 때문에 종종 내가 하고 싶은 말을 현지어로 통역할 수 있는 사람들과 같이 일하게 됩니다. 효과적인 의사전달은 전적으로 이들 통역하는 사람들의 능력에 달려있습니다. 인도네시아의 이나와띠, 말레이시아의 애니, 그리고 브라질의 진, 이들은 내가 하는 말의 의미를 분명하게 전달해주는 사람들입니다.
이와 같은 통역 작업은 성령님이 하나님의 백성들의 삶 속에 일하시는 측면과 비슷합니다. 기도할 때 우리는 언제나 어떻게 기도해야 할지 모르지만(롬 8:26), 27절 말씀이 우리를 이렇게 격려해줍니다. “마음을 살피시는 이가 성령의 생각을 아시나니 이는 성령이 하나님의 뜻대로 성도를 위하여 간구하심이니라.” 우리가 기도로 하나님 아버지께 아뢰면, 성령님은 우리를 도와 우리 기도가 우리 삶을 위한 하나님의 선한 목적에 부합하도록 통역해주십니다.
얼마나 완벽한 준비입니까! 하나님은 우리와 함께 마음을 나누기를 원하실 뿐 아니라, 우리가 기도할 때 돕도록 최고의 통역사까지 준비해주셨습니다. 우리는 우리의 기도가 한마디도 빠지지 않고 전해질 것을 확신할 수 있습니다. |

성령님을 보내주신 하나님 아버지께 감사드립니다.
기도할 때 제 기도가 합당한 기도가 될 수 있도록,
하나님의 도우심에 의지할 수 있게 하시니 감사드립니다.
하나님이 원하시는 것을 완벽하게 이해하시는 성령님께
제가 의지할 수 있도록 가르쳐주소서. |

로마서 8:19-27
[19] 피조물이 고대하는 바는 하나님의 아들들이 나타나는 것이니
[20] 피조물이 허무한 데 굴복하는 것은 자기 뜻이 아니요 오직 굴복하게 하시는 이로 말미암음이라
[21] 그 바라는 것은 피조물도 썩어짐의 종 노릇 한 데서 해방되어 하나님의 자녀들의 영광의 자유에 이르는 것이니라
[22] 피조물이 다 이제까지 함께 탄식하며 함께 고통을 겪고 있는 것을 우리가 아느니라
[23] 그뿐 아니라 또한 우리 곧 성령의 처음 익은 열매를 받은 우리까지도 속으로 탄식하여 양자 될 것 곧 우리 몸의 속량을 기다리느니라
[24] 우리가 소망으로 구원을 얻었으매 보이는 소망이 소망이 아니니 보는 것을 누가 바라리요
[25] 만일 우리가 보지 못하는 것을 바라면 참음으로 기다릴지니라
[26] 이와 같이 성령도 우리의 연약함을 도우시나니 우리는 마땅히 기도할 바를 알지 못하나 오직 성령이 말할 수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 친히 간구하시느니라
