| New Beginnings |

| Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? — Isaiah 43:19 |
New beginnings are possible. Just ask Brayan, a young man who joined a gang in elementary school. Brayan ran away when he was 12 years old, and for 3 years was lost in gang and drug life. Although he left the gang and returned home, it was difficult for him, as he had been expelled from school for selling drugs. When he enrolled in a new high school, however, a teacher inspired and encouraged him to write about his experiences rather than repeat them. He embraced the challenge and is now experiencing a fresh start.
God, through the prophet Isaiah, encouraged Jewish exiles to think about a new beginning as well. God said, “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old”(Isa.43:18). He told them to stop dwelling on their punishment and even on His display of power through the original exodus from Egypt. He wanted their attention to be focused on God who would give them a new beginning by bringing them home from Babylon through a new exodus (v.19).
With God, new beginnings are possible in our hearts. He can help us to let go of the past and start clinging to Him. Relationship with Him provides a new hope for all who will trust Him. |

Work in our hearts in whatever are as need
a fresh start. Help us to do our part and
to trust You to do what only You can do. |

Isaiah 43:14-21
[14] Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy one of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon, And bring them all down as fugitives--The Chaldeans, who rejoice in their ships.
[15] I am the LORD, your Holy one, The Creator of Israel, your King."
[16] Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea And a path through the mighty waters,
[17] Who brings forth the chariot and horse, The army and the power (They shall lie down together, they shall not rise; They are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick):
[18] "Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
[19] Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.
[20] The beast of the field will honor Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I give waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My people, My chosen.
[21] This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise. | |

| 보라 내가 새 일을 행하리니 이제 나타낼 것이라 너희가 그것을 알지 못하겠느냐 - 이사야 43:19 |
새 출발은 가능합니다. 초등학교 시절 폭력조직에 가담했던 청년 브라이언에게 물어보십시오. 그는 열두 살에 가출하여 폭력과 마약으로 3년의 시간을 보냈습니다. 후에 폭력 조직을 떠나 집으로 돌아갔지만, 마약을 팔다 퇴학당했던 그의 삶은 쉽지 않았습니다. 하지만 그가 새로운 고등학교로 전학했을 때, 한 선생님이 그에게 과거의 실수를 되풀이 하지 말고 그것을 글로 써 보라고 독려했습니다. 그는 그 도전을 받아들여 이제 새 출발을 경험하고 있습니다.
하나님은 이사야 선지자를 통해 포로로 끌려간 유대인들에게 새 출발을 생각하라며 용기를 주셨습니다. 하나님은 “너희는 이전 일을 기억하지 말며 옛날 일을 생각하지 말라”(사 43:18)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그들에게 현재의 징계나, 심지어 출애굽을 통해 나타난 하나님의 권능에도 머물러 있지 말라고 하시면서, 새로운 대 이주를 통해 바벨론으로부터 고향으로 옮기심으로 새로운 출발을 하게 하실 하나님께 집중하기를 원하셨습니다(19절).
하나님과 함께라면 우리 마음의 새출발도 가능합니다. 하나님은 우리로 하여금 과거를 흘려보내고 새로 하나님께 매달릴 수 있도록 도와주십니다. 하나님과의 관계는 하나님을 신뢰하는 모든 사람들에게 새로운 소망을 제공합니다. |
이사야 43:14-21
[14] 너희의 구속자요 이스라엘의 거룩한 이 여호와가 말하노라 너희를 위하여 내가 바벨론에 사람을 보내어 모든 갈대아 사람에게 자기들이 연락하던 배를 타고 도망하여 내려가게 하리라
[15] 나는 여호와 너희의 거룩한 이요 이스라엘의 창조자요 너희의 왕이니라
[16] 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 바다 가운데에 길을, 큰 물 가운데에 지름길을 내고
[17] 병거와 말과 군대의 용사를 이끌어 내어 그들이 일시에 엎드러져 일어나지 못하고 소멸하기를 꺼져가는 등불 같게 하였느니라
[18] 너희는 이전 일을 기억하지 말며 옛날 일을 생각하지 말라
[19] 보라 내가 새 일을 행하리니 이제 나타낼 것이라 너희가 그것을 알지 못하겠느냐 반드시 내가 광야에 길을 사막에 강을 내리니
[20] 장차 들짐승 곧 승냥이와 타조도 나를 존경할 것은 내가 광야에 물을, 사막에 강들을 내어 내 백성, 내가 택한 자에게 마시게 할 것임이라
[21] 이 백성은 내가 나를 위하여 지었나니 나를 찬송하게 하려 함이니라 | |
