But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. — Joshua 24:15 Recently I asked my older sister, Mary Ann, if she remembered when our family moved into the house where we lived for many years. She replied, “You were about 9 months old, and I remember that Mother and Daddy stayed up all night packing boxes and listening to the radio. It was June 6, 1944, and they were listening to live coverage of the Normandy Invasion.” Today marks the 70th anniversary of what has become known as D-Day—a military term for the day on which a planned operation will begin. Over the years, D-Day has also come to mean a moment of decision or commitment in our personal lives. At one point in ancient Israel, their leader Joshua, now an old man, challenged the people to another kind of D-Day. After years of struggle to possess their inheritance in the land God had promised them, Joshua urged them to faithfully serve the one who had been so faithful to them (Josh. 24). “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve,” he said. “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”(v.15). The day we decide to follow the Savior is the greatest turning point in our life. And each day after, we can joyfully renew our commitment to serve Him. — David McCasland     Lord, what a privilege it is to say “yes” to You each day. Thank You for loving me and forgiving me. Guide me in all my choices today and help me to serve You faithfully. Life’s biggest decision is what you do with Jesus. Joshua 24:2,13-18 [2] And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods. [13] 'I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.' [14] "Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! [15] "And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." [16] So the people answered and said: "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; [17] "for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. [18] "And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God."

2014년 06월 06일 (금) D-Day(디데이) [ 여호수아 24:13 - 24:18 ] - 찬송가 285장 너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라 - 여호수아 24:15 최근에 누나 메리 앤에게 우리가 오랫동안 살았던 그 집에 우리 가족이 언제 이사했는지 기억하느냐고 물은 적이 있습니다. 누나는 이렇게 대답했습니다. “그 때 너는 9개월 쯤 된 아기였고, 엄마와 아빠가 밤새 이삿짐들을 싸면서 라디오를 들었던 것을 기억해. 그날은 1944년 6월 6일이었는데, 엄마 아빠는 노르망디 상륙작전에 대한 생방송 보도를 듣고 계셨어.” 오늘은 디데이로 알려진 그날의 70주년이 되는 날입니다. 디데이는 계획된 작전이 개시되는 날을 의미하는 군사용어입니다. 그날 이후 여러 해가 지나면서 디데이는 각자의 일상생활에서 중요한 결정이나 약속을 하는 순간을 의미하는 데에도 쓰이고 있습니다. 옛 이스라엘 역사의 어느 한 시점에서 노령의 지도자 여호수아는 또 하나의 디데이로 백성들에게 도전을 주었습니다. 그들이 하나님이 언약하신 땅에서 유업을 얻기 위해 오랜 세월을 분투한 후에, 여호수아는 지금까지 그들에게 그렇게 신실하셨던 하나님을 신실하게 섬기라고 그들에게 촉구하였던 것입니다(수 24장). 그는 말했습니다. “너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라”(15절). 구주를 따르기로 결정한 날은 우리 인생에서 있어서 가장 큰 전환점이 되는 날입니다. 그리고 그날 이후 우리는 매일 주님을 향한 우리의 헌신을 즐겁게 새로이 다짐할 수 있습니다.     주님, 주님께 매일 “순종하겠습니다”라고 말한다는 것이 얼마나 큰 특권인지요. 저를 사랑하시고 용서해주심을 감사합니다. 오늘의 모든 선택들을 잘할 수 있도록 인도해주시고, 주님을 신실하게 섬길 수 있도록 도와주소서. 인생에서 가장 큰 결정은 예수님과 관계를 맺는 것이다. 여호수아 24:2,13-18 [2] 여호수아가 모든 백성에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 옛적에 너희의 조상들 곧 아브라함의 아버지, 나홀의 아버지 데라가 강 저쪽에 거주하여 다른 신들을 섬겼으나 [13] 내가 또 너희가 수고하지 아니한 땅과 너희가 건설하지 아니한 성읍들을 너희에게 주었더니 너희가 그 가운데에 거주하며 너희는 또 너희가 심지 아니한 포도원과 감람원의 열매를 먹는다 하셨느니라 [14] 그러므로 이제는 여호와를 경외하며 온전함과 진실함으로 그를 섬기라 너희의 조상들이 강 저쪽과 애굽에서 섬기던 신들을 치워 버리고 여호와만 섬기라 [15] 만일 여호와를 섬기는 것이 너희에게 좋지 않게 보이거든 너희 조상들이 강 저쪽에서 섬기던 신들이든지 또는 너희가 거주하는 땅에 있는 아모리 족속의 신들이든지 너희가 섬길 자를 오늘 택하라 오직 나와 내 집은 여호와를 섬기겠노라 하니 [16] 백성이 대답하여 이르되 우리가 결단코 여호와를 버리고 다른 신들을 섬기기를 하지 아니하오리니 [17] 이는 우리 하나님 여호와께서 친히 우리와 우리 조상들을 인도하여 애굽 땅 종 되었던 집에서 올라오게 하시고 우리 목전에서 그 큰 이적들을 행하시고 우리가 행한 모든 길과 우리가 지나온 모든 백성들 중에서 우리를 보호하셨음이며 [18] 여호와께서 또 모든 백성들과 이 땅에 거주하던 아모리 족속을 우리 앞에서 쫓아내셨음이라 그러므로 우리도 여호와를 섬기리니 그는 우리 하나님이심이니이다 하니라
