| Rooted Love |

| Do not forget to do good and to share. — Hebrews 13:16 |
When I think of all the wonders of God’s magnificent creation, I am especially awed by the giant sequoia tree. These amazing behemoths of the forest can grow to around 300 feet tall with a diameter that exceeds 20 feet. They can live over 3,000 years and are even fire resistant. In fact, forest fires pop the sequoia cones open, distributing their seeds on the forest floor that has been fertilized by the ashes. Perhaps the most amazing fact is that these trees can grow in just 3 feet of soil and withstand high winds. Their strength lies in the fact that their roots intertwine with other sequoias, providing mutual strength and shared resources.
God’s plan for us is like that. Our ability to stand tall in spite of the buffeting winds of life is directly related to the love and support we receive from God and one another. And then, as the writer of Hebrews says, we are to “do good and to share”(13:16). Think of how tough it would be to withstand adversity if someone were not sharing the roots of their strength with us.
There is great power in the entwining gifts of words of encouragement, prayers of intercession, weeping together, holding each other, and sometimes just sitting with one another sharing the presence of our love. — Joe Stowell |
Hebrews 13:15-25
[15] Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
[16] But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
[17] Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
[18] Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.
[19] But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
[20] Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
[21] make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
[22] And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words.
[23] Know that our brother Timothy has been set free, with whom I shall see you if he comes shortly.
[24] Greet all those who rule over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.
[25] Grace be with you all. Amen. | |

| 뿌리 얽힌 사랑 |

| 오직 선을 행함과 서로 나누어 주기를 잊지 말라 — 히브리서 13:16 |
하나님의 광대한 창조의 갖가지 경이로움을 생각할 때, 나는 특별히 거대한 세쿼이아 나무로 인해 놀라움을 금치 못합니다. 숲속의 이 놀라운 거목들은 6미터 이상 되는 지름에 키가 약 100미터까지 자랄 수 있습니다. 이 나무들은 3,000년 이상 살 수 있고, 불도 견디어냅니다. 실제로 산불은 세쿼이아 방울들을 터뜨려, 재로 인하여 기름진 숲 바닥에 씨를 퍼뜨려 놓습니다. 아마도 가장 놀라운 사실은 이 나무들이 땅속으로 불과 1 미터 정도만 자라고도 강한 바람에 견딜 수 있다는 것입니다. 이 나무들이 견디는 힘은 나무의 뿌리가 다른 세쿼이아 나무뿌리와 서로 얽혀 있어서 상호간에 힘을 주고 자원들을 공유하는 데서 옵니다.
우리에 대한 하나님의 계획도 이와 같습니다. 삶을 뒤흔드는 강풍에도 불구하고 우리가 똑바로 서 있을 수 있는 능력은 하나님과 이웃으로부터 받는 사랑과 도움에 직접 연관되어 있습니다. 그리고 히브리서 기자가 말한 것처럼 우리는 “선을 행하고 나누어 주어야”(13:16) 합니다. 누군가가 그들의 강한 뿌리를 우리와 공유하지 않는다면 역경을 견디어내는 것이 얼마나 어려울 것인지 생각해보십시오.
격려의 말을 하고, 중보기도하고, 함께 울고, 서로 붙잡아주며, 때때로 그냥 옆에 앉아 사랑으로 함께 있어 주는 은사들이 서로 엮어질 때 거기에 커다란 능력이 나타납니다. |

주님, 주님의 능력을
제 삶 가운데 함께 엮어주심에 감사드립니다.
오늘 주님이 주신 자원의 능력을 나누어 가지는 사랑을
필요로 하는 누군가에게로 저를 이끌어주소서. |

당신의 삶 속에 있는 하나님의 사랑의 뿌리들이
당신의 도움을 필요로 하는 사람들과 서로 엮이게 하라. |

히브리서 13:15-25
[15] 그러므로 우리는 예수로 말미암아 항상 찬송의 제사를 하나님께 드리자 이는 그 이름을 증언하는 입술의 열매니라
[16] 오직 선을 행함과 서로 나누어 주기를 잊지 말라 하나님은 이같은 제사를 기뻐하시느니라
[17] 너희를 인도하는 자들에게 순종하고 복종하라 그들은 너희 영혼을 위하여 경성하기를 자신들이 청산할 자인 것 같이 하느니라 그들로 하여금 즐거움으로 이것을 하게 하고 근심으로 하게 하지 말라 그렇지 않으면 너희에게 유익이 없느니라
[18] 우리를 위하여 기도하라 우리가 모든 일에 선하게 행하려 하므로 우리에게 선한 양심이 있는 줄을 확신하노니
[19] 내가 더 속히 너희에게 돌아가기 위하여 너희가 기도하기를 더욱 원하노라
[20] 양들의 큰 목자이신 우리 주 예수를 영원한 언약의 피로 죽은 자 가운데서 이끌어 내신 평강의 하나님이
[21] 모든 선한 일에 너희를 온전하게 하사 자기 뜻을 행하게 하시고 그 앞에 즐거운 것을 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리 가운데서 이루시기를 원하노라 영광이 그에게 세세무궁토록 있을지어다 아멘
[22] 형제들아 내가 너희를 권하노니 권면의 말을 용납하라 내가 간단히 너희에게 썼느니라
[23] 우리 형제 디모데가 놓인 것을 너희가 알라 그가 속히 오면 내가 그와 함께 가서 너희를 보리라
[24] 너희를 인도하는 자들과 및 모든 성도들에게 문안하라 이달리야에서 온 자들도 너희에게 문안하느니라
