The Well-Watered Life |

| He shall be like a tree planted by the waters ... ; its leaf ill be green. — Jeremiah 17:8 |
I have a friend who lives on a ranch in the wide-open spaces of Montana. The road to his home is a long trail that winds through the parched and barren landscape of the wilderness. As you drive toward his home, you can’t help but notice the contrasting strip of green trees and vibrant vegetation meandering through the ranch. one of the finest trout rivers in North America cuts through the property, and anything that grows near its banks gets the benefit of an unending source of vital water.
This is the picture Jeremiah paints when he says that those who trust in the Lord are “like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river”(Jer. 17:8). Many may choose the wilting heat and choking drought of life apart from God, but those who trust in God will be vibrant and fruitful. Depending on Him is like putting our roots into the refreshing water of His goodness. We are strengthened with the confidence that His steadfast love for us will never fail.
God will ultimately make all things right. Trusting that He will turn our pain to gain and use suffering to mature us empowers us to become fruit-bearers in a dry and thirsty land. — Joe Stowell |

Jeremiah 17:1-8
[1] "The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron; With the point of a diamond it is engraved on the tablet of their heart, And on the horns of your altars,
[2] While their children remember Their altars and their wooden images By the green trees on the high hills.
[3] O My mountain in the field, I will give as plunder your wealth, all your treasures, And your high places of sin within all your borders.
[4] And you, even yourself, Shall let go of your heritage which I gave you; And I will cause you to serve your enemies In the land which you do not know; For you have kindled a fire in My anger which shall burn forever."
[5] Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.
[6] For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.
[7] "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.
[8] For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. | |

| 물을 잘 공급받는 삶 |

| 그는 물가에 심어진 나무가…그 잎이 청청하며…같으리라 — 예레미야 17:8 |
친구 하나가 몬태나주의 광활하게 탁 트인 곳에 위치한 목장에 살고 있습니다. 그 집에 가려면 마르고 척박한 황무지를 가로지르는 구불구불한 긴 시골길을 지나야 합니다. 그러나 막상 그의 집에 거의 다다르면, 이와 대조적으로 목장을 가로질러 굽이쳐 흐르는 푸르고 생기 넘치는 초목들의 모습이 눈에 확 들어옵니다. 그리고 북미에서 송어가 가장 잘 잡히는 강 하나가 그 목장을 가로질러 흐르고 있어서, 강둑 근처에서 자라고 있는 어떤 생물이든지 무한정으로 신선한 물을 공급받고 있습니다.
이것은 예레미야가 주님을 믿는 자는 “물가에 심어진 나무가 그 뿌리를 강변에 뻗치고”(렘 17:8) 있는 것과 같다고 말할 때의 그 모습과 바로 일치합니다. 많은 사람들이 하나님을 떠나 시들게 하는 뜨거운 열기와 숨 막히는 가뭄의 삶을 선택할 수도 있겠지만, 하나님을 신뢰하는 사람들은 활기차고 열매 맺는 인생을 살 것입니다. 주님을 의지하는 것은 마치 주님의 선하심이라는 신선한 물가에 우리의 뿌리를 뻗치는 것과 같습니다. 우리를 향한 하나님의 변함없는 사랑이 결코 쇠하지 않을 것이라는 확신이 있으므로 우리는 힘을 얻습니다.
하나님은 궁극적으로 모든 일을 제대로 바로잡으실 것입니다. 우리의 고통으로 얻음을 주시고 시련을 통해 우리를 성숙시키시는 하나님을 신뢰할 때, 우리는 건조하고 메마른 땅에서도 열매를 맺게 될 것입니다. |

예레미야 17:1-8
[1] 유다의 죄는 금강석 끝 철필로 기록되되 그들의 마음 판과 그들의 제단 뿔에 새겨졌거늘
[2] 그들의 자녀가 높은 언덕 위 푸른 나무 곁에 있는 그 제단들과 아세라들을 생각하도다
[3] 들에 있는 나의 산아 네 온 영토의 죄로 말미암아 내가 네 재산과 네 모든 보물과 산당들로 노략을 당하게 하리니
[4] 내가 네게 준 네 기업에서 네 손을 뗄 것이며 또 내가 너로 하여금 너의 알지 못하는 땅에서 네 원수를 섬기게 하리니 이는 너희가 내 노를 맹렬하게 하여 영원히 타는 불을 일으켰음이라
[5] 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시니라 무릇 사람을 믿으며 육신으로 그의 힘을 삼고 마음이 여호와에게서 떠난 그 사람은 저주를 받을 것이라
[6] 그는 사막의 떨기나무 같아서 좋은 일이 오는 것을 보지 못하고 광야 간조한 곳, 건건한 땅, 사람이 살지 않는 땅에 살리라
[7] 그러나 무릇 여호와를 의지하며 여호와를 의뢰하는 그 사람은 복을 받을 것이라
[8] 그는 물 가에 심어진 나무가 그 뿌리를 강변에 뻗치고 더위가 올지라도 두려워하지 아니하며 그 잎이 청청하며 가무는 해에도 걱정이 없고 결실이 그치지 아니함 같으리라 | |
