| 04 April Mon, 2016 | | | Wisdom and Grace | | [ James 1:1 - 1:8 ] - hymn543 | | | If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. - James 1:5 | On April 4, 1968, American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was assassinated, leaving millions angry and disillusioned. In Indianapolis, a largely African-American crowd had gathered to hear Robert F. Kennedy speak. Many had not yet heard of Dr. King’s death, so Kennedy had to share the tragic news. He appealed for calm by acknowledging not only their pain but his own abiding grief over the murder of his brother, President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy then quoted a variation of an ancient poem by Aeschylus (526–456 bc):
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom through the awful grace of God.
“Wisdom through the awful grace of God” is a remarkable statement. It means that God’s grace fills us with awe and gives us the opportunity to grow in wisdom during life’s most difficult moments.
James wrote, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you”(James 1:5). James says that this wisdom is grown in the soil of hardship (vv.2-4), for there we not only learn from the wisdom of God, we rest in the grace of God.

James 1:1-8
[1] James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings.
[2] My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
[3] knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
[4] But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
[5] If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
[6] But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
[7] For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
[8] he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. |
| | 2016년 04월 04일 (월) | | | 지혜와 은혜 | | [ 야고보서 1:1 - 1:8 ] - 찬송가 543장 | | | 너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 - 야고보서 1:5 | 1968년 4월 4일, 미국의 민권운동 지도자 마틴 루터 킹 박사가 암살당하자 수많은 사람들이 분노하고 경악했습니다. 인디애나폴리스에서는 대다수가 흑인인 군중이 로버트 케네디의 연설을 듣기 위해 모였습니다. 아직 많은 사람들이 킹 박사의 죽음에 관해 듣지 못했기에 케네디는 이 비통한 소식을 전해야 했습니다. 그는 그들의 고통뿐 아니라 암살당한 자기의 형인 존 F. 케네디 대통령에 대한 자신의 슬픔을 받아들여 모두가 침착해줄 것을 호소했습니다.
그리고 케네디는 약간 수정된 고대 아이스킬로스(기원전 526-456)의 시를 인용 했습니다.
‘잠자는 순간에도 잊지 못할 고통이 조금씩 우리의 심장을 찌르지만, 절망 중에 있는 우리에게 우리의 의지와는 무관하게 하나님의 엄청난 은혜로 주어지는 지혜가 찾아옵니다.’
“하나님의 엄청난 은혜로 주어지는 지혜”라는 말은 참으로 주목할 만한 표현입니다. 그것은 하나님의 은혜가 우리를 경외심으로 채우고, 삶의 가장 어려운 시기에 우리가 지혜 가운데 성장할 기회를 제공해준다는 의미입니다.
야고보는 “너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라”(약 1:5)라고 썼습니다. 야고보는 이 지혜가 고난이라는 토양에서 자란다고 말하는데(2-4절), 왜냐하면 고난 속에서 우리는 하나님의 지혜로부터 배울 뿐 아니라 하나님의 은혜 가운데 안식하기 때문입니다. |

야고보서 1:1-8

[4] 인내를 온전히 이루라 이는 너희로 온전하고 구비하여 조금도 부족함이 없게 하려 함이라
