| 21 February Sun, 2016 | | | The View from the Mountain | | [ Philippians 4:8 - 4:13 ] - hymn546 | | | Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above. - Colossians 3:1 | Our valley in Idaho can be very cold in the winter. Clouds and fog roll in and blanket the ground, trapping frigid air under warmer layers above. But you can get above the valley. There’s a road nearby that winds up the flank of Shafer Butte, a 7,500-foot mountain that rises out of our valley. A few minutes of driving and you break out of the fog and emerge into the warmth and brilliance of a sunlit day. You can look down on the clouds that shroud the valley below and see it from a different point of view.
Life is like that at times. Circumstances seem to surround us with a fog that sunlight cannot penetrate. Yet faith is the way we get above the valley—the means by which we “set [our]hearts on things above”(Col.3:1). As we do, the Lord enables us to rise above our circumstances and fi-nd courage and calmness for the day. As the apostle Paul wrote, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances”(Phil.4:11).
We can climb out of our misery and gloom. We can sit for a time on the mountainside and through Christ who gives us strength (v.13) we can gain a different perspective. - David Roper |

Philippians 4:8-13
[8] Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
[9] The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
[10] But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.
[11] Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:
[12] I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
[13] I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. |
| | 2016년 02월 21일 (주일) | | | 산에서 본 광경 | | [ 빌립보서 4:8 - 4:13 ] - 찬송가 546장 | | | 그러므로 너희가 그리스도와 함께 다시 살리심을 받았으면 위의 것을 찾으라 - 골로새서 3:1 | 아이다호에 있는 우리 골짜기는 겨울에 몹시 추울 때가 있습니다. 구름과 안개가 밀려들어와 지면을 덮고, 매우 차가운 공기를 따뜻한 공기층 아래에 가두어버립니다. 그래도 골짜기 위로 올라가볼 수는 있습니다. 우리 골짜기에서 솟아오른 2,300미터 높이의 산, 세이퍼 뷰트의 산허리를 구불구불 휘감은 도로가 가까이에 있습니다. 몇 분을 운전하면 안개를 벗어나 따사롭고 눈부신 햇빛이 비치는 곳으로 가게 됩니다. 당신은 아래로 골짜기를 뒤덮은 구름을 내려다볼 수 있으며, 전혀 다른 전망을 갖고 바라볼 수 있습니다.
인생도 그와 같을 때가 있습니다. 주위의 환경들이 마치 햇빛이 통과할 수 없는 안개가 우리를 둘러싸고 있는 것처럼 보일 때가 있습니다. 하지만 믿음은 우리가 골짜기 위로 이르게 하는 길이며, 우리가 “위의 것을 찾는”(골 3:1) 수단이 됩니다. 우리가 그렇게 할 때, 주님은 우리로 하여금 우리의 형편을 넘어서 일어서게 하시고 그날을 위한 용기와 평온을 찾게 해주십니다. 바울사도가 쓴 것처럼 “[우리는] 어떠한 형편에든지 자족하기를 배웁니다”(빌 4:11).
우리는 불행과 고통을 벗어나 위로 올라갈 수 있습니다. 잠시 산비탈에 그냥 앉아 있을 수도 있으며, 우리에게 능력주시는 주님을 통하여(13절) 다른 관점을 지닐 수도 있습니다. |

[8] 끝으로 형제들아 무엇에든지 참되며 무엇에든지 경건하며 무엇에든지 옳으며 무엇에든지 정결하며 무엇에든지 사랑 받을 만하며 무엇에든지 칭찬 받을 만하며 무슨 덕이 있든지 무슨 기림이 있든지 이것들을 생각하라
[9] 너희는 내게 배우고 받고 듣고 본 바를 행하라 그리하면 평강의 하나님이 너희와 함께 계시리라
[10] 내가 주 안에서 크게 기뻐함은 너희가 나를 생각하던 것이 이제 다시 싹이 남이니 너희가 또한 이를 위하여 생각은 하였으나 기회가 없었느니라
[11] 내가 궁핍하므로 말하는 것이 아니니라 어떠한 형편에든지 나는 자족하기를 배웠노니
[12] 나는 비천에 처할 줄도 알고 풍부에 처할 줄도 알아 모든 일 곧 배부름과 배고픔과 풍부와 궁핍에도 처할 줄 아는 일체의 비결을 배웠노라
[13] 내게 능력 주시는 자 안에서 내가 모든 것을 할 수 있느니라. |
