| 25 April Mon, 2016 | | | Greater than the Mess | | [ 2 Samuel 22:26 - 22:37 ] - hymn384 | | | You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light. - 2 Samuel 22:29 | A major theme of the Old Testament book of 2 Samuel could easily be “Life is a mess!” It has all the elements of a blockbuster TV miniseries. As David sought to establish his rule as king of Israel, he faced military challenges, political intrigue, and betrayal by friends and family members. And David himself was certainly not without guilt as his relationship with Bathsheba clearly showed (chs.11–12).
Yet near the end of 2 Samuel we find David’s song of praise to God for His mercy, love, and deliverance. “You, Lord, are my lamp; the Lord turns my darkness into light”(22:29).
In many of his difficulties, David turned to the Lord. “With your help I can advance against a troop [run through a barricade]; with my God I can scale a wall”(v.30).
Perhaps we identify with David’s struggles because he, like us, was far from perfect. Yet he knew that God was greater than the most chaotic parts of his life.
With David we can say, “As for God, his way is perfect: the Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him”(v.31). And that includes us!
Life is messy, but God is greater than the mess. |

2 Samuel 22:26-37
[26] "With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
[27] With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.
[28] You will save the humble people; But Your eyes are on the haughty, that You may bring them down.
[29] "For You are my lamp, O LORD; The LORD shall enlighten my darkness.
[30] For by You I can run against a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.
[31] As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
[32] "For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?
[33] God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect.
[34] He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.
[35] He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
[36] "You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your gentleness has made me great.
[37] You enlarged my path under me; So my feet did not slip. |
| | 2016년 04월 25일 (월) | | | 어떤 혼돈보다도 더 위대하신 분 | | [ 사무엘하 22:26 - 22:37 ] - 찬송가 384장 | | | 여호와여 주는 나의 등불이시니 여호와께서 나의 어둠을 밝히시리이다 - 사무엘하 22:29 | 구약성경 사무엘하의 주제는 간단히 말해 “삶은 혼란스럽다!”라고 말할 수 있습니다. 거기에는 인기 있는 텔레비전 미니시리즈의 모든 요소가 갖춰져 있습니다. 다윗이 이스라엘의 왕으로서 통치하려고 할 때, 그는 군사적인 도전과 정치적인 음모, 그리고 친구들과 가족들로부터의 배신을 접하게 됩니다. 그리고 다윗 자신도 밧세바와의 관계가 명백히 드러남으로써 그 또한 죄 없는 상태가 분명 아니었습니다(11-12장).
그러나 사무엘하의 거의 마지막을 보면, 다윗이 하나님의 자비와 사랑과 구원을 찬양하는 노래가 나옵니다. “여호와여 주는 나의 등불이시니 여호와께서 나의 어둠을 밝히시리이다”(22:29).
다윗은 수많은 고난 가운데 주님을 의지했습니다. “내가 주를 의뢰하고 [방책을 지나] 적군으로 달리며 내 하나님을 의지하고 성벽을 뛰어넘나이다”(30절).
우리가 다윗의 고충에 공감할 수 있는 것은 아마도 그도 우리처럼 결코 완벽하지 않았기 때문일 것입니다. 하지만 그는 하나님이 그의 삶의 어떤 혼돈보다도 더 위대하시다는 것을 알고 있었습니다.
우리도 다윗처럼 이렇게 말할 수 있습니다. “하나님의 도는 완전하고 여호와의 말씀은 진실하니 그는 자기에게 피하는 모든 자에게 방패시로다”(31절). 그 모든 자에 우리도 포함됩니다!
삶은 혼란스럽습니다. 그러나 하나님은 그 어떤 혼돈보다도 더 위대하십니다. |
