26 April Thu, 2012 TRUE RELIGION [ James 1:19 - 1:27 ] - hymn455 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. - James 1:27 I recently saw an ad for a brand of clothing geared toward youth. It consists of blue jeans and all the accessories designed to go with them. There is nothing novel about that. What got my attention, however, was the name of this clothing line. It is called “True Religion.” That caused me to stop and think. Why was that name chosen? Am I missing some deeper significance? What is the con-nection between a brand of jeans and true religion? What do they mean by it? My musings left me with questions for which I had no answers. I am thankful that the book of James is clear when describing true religion or true faith: “Pure and unde-filed religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world”(1:27). That is refreshing. “True religion”-genuine faith-is an expres-sion of how we relate to our God. one evidence of our new identity in Christ is the way we care for one another- reaching to the most frail and vulnerable among us, to those most in need of help. True religion is not a garment to be taken on and off. [22] But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. [23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; [24] for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. [25] But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. [26] If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. 2012년 04월 26일 (목) 진실한 신앙 [ 야고보서 1:19 - 1:27 ] - 찬송가 455장 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 그것이니라 - 야고보서 1:27 최근에 나는 젊은 층을 겨냥한 의류상품의 광고를 하나 보았습니다. 그것은 청바지와 그에 맞춰 디자인한 모든 액세서리들을 선전하는 광고였습니다. 사실 그것은 특별히 새로운 게 전혀 없었습니다. 그러나 나의 관심을 끈 것은 그 의류의 이름이었습니다. 그것은 “진실한 신앙”이었습니다. 그 이름을 보면서 나는 잠시 멈춰 생각해 보았습니다. 왜 그런 이름이 선택되었을까? 내가 모르는 더 깊은 뜻이 있는 것은 아닌가? 청바지와 진실한 신앙 사이에는 어떤 연관성이 있을까? 그것은 무엇을 뜻하는 것일까? 나의 깊은 생각은 답이 없는 질문들만 남겨 놓았습니다. 나는 진실한 신앙 혹은 믿음에 대해 야고보서가 명확하게 설명해준 것에 대해 감사합니다. “하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난중에 돌보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 그것이니라”(1:27). 이 말은 정말 참신합니다. “진실한 신앙”, 즉 성실한 믿음은 우리가 하나님과 맺고 있는 관계의 표현입니다. 우리가 그리스도 안에서 새로운 피조물이 되었다는 하나의 증거는 우리가 서로를 돌보아 주는 것입니다. 우리 중에 가장 약하고 상처입기 쉬우며 가장 도움이 필요한 사람들에게 손을 뻗치는 것입니다. 진실한 신앙은 입고 벗고 하는 옷이 아닙니다. 그것은 우리가 거룩하신 하나님과 다른 사람들 앞에서 어떻게 사느냐 하는 대단히 고결한 도전입니다.     진실한 신앙은 그리스도가 전하는 사랑을 아는 것이라네 진실한 신앙은 상한 심령에게 주님의 사랑을 보여 주는 것이라네 믿음은 겉모습으로 광고하는 것이 아니라 삶을 살아가며 행하는 것이다. 야고보서 1:19-27 [19] 내 사랑하는 형제들아 너희가 알거니와 사람마다 듣기는 속히 하고 말하기는 더디 하며 성내기도 더디하라 [20] 사람의 성내는 것이 하나님의 의를 이루지 못함이니라 [21] 그러므로 모든 더러운 것과 넘치는 악을 내어 버리고 능히 너희 영혼을 구원할 바 마음에 심긴 도를 온유함으로 받으라 [22] 너희는 도를 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라 [23] 누구든지 도를 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같으니 [24] 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모양이 어떠한 것을 곧 잊어버리거니와 [25] 자유하게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다 보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실행하는 자니 이 사람이 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라 [26] 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 먹이지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라 [27] 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌아보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라
