| Those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the Word. — Acts 8:4 |
The term “viral video” refers to a short clip posted on the Internet that spreads rapidly as the link is sent from one person to another. The video may be funny, inspiring, or thought provoking, and it can quickly spread around the world and be seen by millions of people. It’s an advertiser’s dream, but few marketing experts are able to exploit it. Lacy Kemp wrote: “How do you make something spread like wildfire? The answer is that you can’t. It’s not something to plan for or else everyone would be doing it. It has to be awesome enough on its own to get there.”
The gospel of Jesus Christ is “viral” in the way it spreads from one person to another. After Stephen, a leader in the early church, was stoned for his faith, the followers of Jesus in Jerusalem were persecuted and forced to leave their homes (Acts 8:1-3). Instead of fearfully holding back, these Christians told people about Him wherever they went. “Those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the Word” (v.4).
When we truly know Christ we cannot keep the good news about Him to ourselves. Even in the most challenging circumstances, we want to keep on telling others about our Savior and Lord. |

Acts 7:59–8:8
[59] And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
[60] Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
[8:1] Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.
[2] And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.
[3] As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering every house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison.
[4] Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word.
[5] Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.
[6] And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
[7] For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed.

‘바이러스성 비디오’란 말은 짧은 동영상을 가리키는 말로 그 것을 본 사람이 다른 사람에게 해당 사이트 주소를 보내주면서 빠른 속도로 인터넷상에서 퍼집니다. 그 동영상은 재미있거나, 영감을 주거나, 혹은 생각하게 만드는 것일 수도 있는데, 전 세계에 아주 빠르게 전파되어 수백만 명의 사람들이 보게 됩니다. 이것은 광고주들이 바라는 꿈이지만, 그렇게 바이러스성 비디오를 이용해 많은 사람들에게 전파시킬 수 있는 광고전문가는 별로 없습니다. 레이시 켐프는 리얼네트웍스블로그닷컴이라는 인터넷사이트에 다음과 같은 글을 올렸습니다, “누가 산불같이 퍼져나가는 무엇인가를 만들어낼 수 있겠습니까? 이는 그 누구도 할 수 없습니다. 그것은 계획을 해서 되는 일이거나 누구라도 해볼 수 있는 그런 것이 아닙니다. 그것은 그 자체로서 엄청난 파급력을 지니고 있어야만 멀리 퍼질 수 있습니다.”
예수 그리스도의 복음은 한 사람으로부터 다른 사람에게 번지는 면에서 바이러스와 비슷합니다. 초대교회의 지도자인 스데반이 돌에 맞아 순교한 후, 예루살렘에 있던 예수님을 따르는 사람들이 박해를 받아 어쩔 수 없이 그들의 집을 떠나야만 했습니다(행 8:1-3). 하지만 이들은 두려움에 움츠러들지 않고 가는 곳마다 사람들에게 예수님에 대해 전했습니다. “그 흩어진 사람들이 두루 다니며 복음의 말씀을 전할새”(4절).
우리가 진정으로 그리스도를 알게 되면 우리는 그리스도에 관한 기쁜 소식을 우리만 간직하고 살 수는 없습니다. 아주 힘든 상황에서도 우리는 우리의 구주에 대해 다른 사람들에게 계속해서 전하기를 원하게 됩니다. |

[59] 그들이 돌로 스데반을 치니 스데반이 부르짖어 이르되 주 예수여 내 영혼을 받으시옵소서 하고
[60] 무릎을 꿇고 크게 불러 이르되 주여 이 죄를 그들에게 돌리지 마옵소서 이 말을 하고 자니라
[8:1] 사울은 그가 죽임 당함을 마땅히 여기더라 그 날에 예루살렘에 있는 교회에 큰 박해가 있어 사도 외에는 다 유대와 사마리아 모든 땅으로 흩어지니라
[2] 경건한 사람들이 스데반을 장사하고 위하여 크게 울더라
[3] 사울이 교회를 잔멸할새 각 집에 들어가 남녀를 끌어다가 옥에 넘기니라
[4] 그 흩어진 사람들이 두루 다니며 복음의 말씀을 전할새
[5] 빌립이 사마리아 성에 내려가 그리스도를 백성에게 전파하니
[6] 무리가 빌립의 말도 듣고 행하는 표적도 보고 한마음으로 그가 하는 말을 따르더라
[7] 많은 사람에게 붙었던 더러운 귀신들이 크게 소리를 지르며 나가고 또 많은 중풍병자와 못 걷는 사람이 나으니
