Every summer, thousands of Good Morning America viewers cast their votes to select “The Most Beautiful Place in America.” I was delighted when the winner for 2011 was announced-Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in my home state of Michigan. Admittedly, I didn’t expect the winning location to be in my own backyard. It reminded me of the time my wife, Martie, and I visited Niagara Falls. A man nearby watched our tourist behavior and quipped, “Ain’t nothin’ to it. I see it every day.”
How easily we grow accustomed to our surroundings and dulled to things that are familiar-even places and experiences that once brought great delight. Although God’s glory is clearly displayed all around us, sometimes the busyness of everyday life blocks our view. We take for granted His amazing work in our lives. We lose the wonder of the cross. We forget the privilege of being His child. We neglect the pleasure of His presence and miss the beauty of His creation.
I love the psalmist’s declaration: “I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works”(Ps.145:5). Let’s take time today to meditate on God’s “wondrous works” and get a fresh glimpse of His glory! - Joe Stowell

Psalm 145:1-13
[1] A psalm of praise. Of David. I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. [2] Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. [3] Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. [4] one generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. [5] They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. [6] They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. [7] They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness. [8] The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. 새롭게 보는 하나님의 영광
[ 시편 145:1 - 145:13 ] - 찬송가593장
주의 존귀하고 영광스러운 위엄과 주의 기이한 일들을 나는 작은 소리로 읊조리리이다 - 시편 145:5
매해 여름이면 수천 명의 「굿모닝 아메리카」 프로그램 시청자들이 “미국에서 가장 아름다운 곳”을 뽑는 투표를 합니다. 2011년도에는 내가 사는 미시간 주의 ‘슬리핑 베어 듄즈 국립 호반’이 선정 되어 무척 기뻤습니다. 솔직히 말해, 나는 내가 사는 집의 뒤뜰이 선정되리라고는 전혀 기대를 하지 않았습니다. 이 일은 내가 아내 마티와 함께 나이아가라 폭포를 방문했을 때를 생각나게 해주었습니다. 그때 관광객들이 감탄하는 모습을 보면서 그 근처에 살고 있던 한 사람이 “별 것 아니에요. 저는 매일 보는 걸요.”라고 빈정대며 말했었습니다.
우리는 얼마나 쉽게 주위환경에 익숙해져서 그것들에 무감각해지는지 모릅니다. 한때 큰 기쁨을 주었던 장소나 경험까지도 말입니다. 하나님의 영광은 우리의 온 주위에 분명히 드러나 있지만, 때로는 우리의 바쁜 일상생활 때문에 그것을 보지 못합니다. 그리고 우리의 삶속에 역사하시는 하나님의 놀라운 섭리를 당연한 것으로 생각합니다. 십자가의 경이로움을 잃어버리고, 하나님의 자녀로서의 특권도 잊어버립니다. 하나님의 임재의 기쁨을 무시하고, 하나님의 창조의 아름다움도 깨닫지 못합니다.
“주의 존귀하고 영광스러운 위엄과 주의 기이한 일들을 나는 작은 소리로 읊조리리이다”(시 145:5)라고 표현한 시편기자의 선언을 나는 좋아합니다. 오늘 시간을 내어 하나님의 “기이한 역사들”을 묵상하고 그분의 영광을 다시 한 번 새롭게 바라봅시다!
매 시간 바라보는 아름다운 언덕과 골짜기, 나무와 꽃 만물의 주님 하나님께감사의 찬송을 올려드립니다.
