March 10, 2013 — by Bill Crowder Extravagant Gifts [ Luke 21:1 - 21:4 ] - hymn50 All these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had. — Luke 21:4 When I was pastoring a small church, we faced a huge crisis. Unless we could complete the extensive renovations necessary to bring our building up to the proper safety codes, we would lose our place of worship. A desperate time of fundraising ensued to pay for those renovations; but of all the money given, one gift captured our leadership’s attention. An elderly woman in the church donated several hundred dollars to the project—money we knew she could not spare. We thanked her for her gift but wanted to return it, feeling that her needs were greater than the church’s. However, she refused to take the money back. She had been saving for years in order to buy a stove and was cooking on a hot plate in the meantime. Yet she insisted that she needed a place to worship with her church family more than she needed a stove. We were astounded by her extravagant gift. When our Lord observed a widow putting two mites (the smallest of coins) into the temple offerings, He praised her for her extravagance (Luke 21:3-4). Why? Not because of how much she gave, but because she gave all she had. It’s the kind of gift that not only honors our God, but also reminds us of the most extravagant of gifts to us—Christ.     What can I give Him, poor as I am?If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;If I were a wise man, I would do my part; Yet what can I give Him—give my heart.  — Rossetti Gratitude of heart can often be seen in a generous spirit. Luke 21:1-4 [1] As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. [2] He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. [3] "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. [4] All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."

2013년 03월 10일 (주일) 후한 헌금 [ 누가복음 21:1 - 21:4 ] - 찬송가 50장 저들은 그 풍족한 중에서 헌금을 넣었거니와 이 과부는 그 가난한 중에서 자기가 가지고 있는 생활비 전부를 넣었느니라 - 누가복음 21:4 내가 작은 교회에서 목회하고 있을 때 큰 위기에 직면한 적이 있었습니다. 건물 안전 규정에 맞도록 교회건물을 대폭 수리하지 않으면 예배장소를 잃게 될 상황이었습니다. 수리 비용 마련을 위한 모금이 절박한 상황에서 계속되었습니다. 그런데 모인 돈 중에 교회 지도자들의 이목을 끈 헌금이 한 건 있었습니다. 교회에서 한 나이 많은 부인이 건물 수리 프로젝트 비용으로 수백 달러를 기부한 것입니다. 우리가 알기에 그 돈은 그녀가 여유 있게 따로 쓸 수 있는 돈이 아니었습니다. 우리는 그녀의 헌금을 고마워했지만 교회보다는 그녀에게 더 필요할 것이라고 생각하여 돌려주려고 했지만, 그녀는 그 돈을 돌려받기를 거절했습니다. 그녀는 여러 해 동안 요리용 스토브를 사기 위해 돈을 모아오면서, 간이 전열기로 요리를 하고 있었습니다. 그럼에도 그녀는 스토브보다는 교회 식구들과 예배드릴 수 있는 장소가 더 필요하다고 강조했습니다. 우리는 그녀의 후한 헌금에 놀랄 뿐이었습니다. 주님은 과부가 헌금함에 두 렙돈(가장 작은 동전)을 넣는 것을 보시고, 그녀의 후함을 칭찬하셨습니다(눅 21:3-4). 왜 그럴까요? 많이 바쳤기 때문이 아니라, 그녀가 가지고 있던 전부를 바쳤기 때문입니다. 그것은 하나님을 영화롭게 하는 헌금일 뿐 아니라, 우리에게 가장 후한 선물인 예수님을 상기시켜 줍니다.     나처럼 가난한 자가 무엇을 주님께 드릴 수 있을까요 내가 만일 양치는 목자라면 양을 드리겠고 지혜로운 자라면 주어진 사명을 감당하겠건만 오직 내가 주님께 드릴 수 있는 것, 내 마음을 드립니다. 감사하는 마음은 흔히 후히 베푸는 마음으로 나타난다. 누가복음 21:1-4 [1] 예수께서 눈을 들어 부자들이 헌금함에 헌금 넣는 것을 보시고 [2] 또 어떤 가난한 과부가 두 렙돈 넣는 것을 보시고 [3] 이르시되 내가 참으로 너희에게 말하노니 이 가난한 과부가 다른 모든 사람보다 많이 넣었도다 [4] 저들은 그 풍족한 중에서 헌금을 넣었거니와 이 과부는 그 가난한 중에서 자기가 가지고 있는 생활비 전부를 넣었느니라 하시니라
