God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. — Philippians 4:19
When butterflies hatch at Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan, they do so in an indoor tropical paradise perfectly suited to meet their every need. The temperature is perfect. The humidity is perfect. The food is a perfect balance of calories and nutrition to keep them healthy. No need to go elsewhere. Yet some butterflies see the bright blue sky outside the conservatory and spend their days fluttering near the glass ceiling far away from the plentiful food supply.
I want to say to those butterflies, “Don’t you know everything you need is inside? The outside is cold and harsh, and you will die within minutes if you get what you are longing to have.”
I wonder if that is the message God has for me. So I ask myself, Do I look longingly at things that would harm me? Do I use my energy to gain what I don’t need and shouldn’t have? Do I ignore God’s plentiful provision because I imagine that something just beyond my reach is better? Do I spend my time on the fringes of faith?
God supplies all our needs from His riches (Phil.4:19). So instead of striving for what we don’t have, may we open our hearts to gratefully receive everything we’ve already been given by Him.

Our needs will never exhaust

Philippians 4:10-20
[10] I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. [11] I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. [12] I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. [13] I can do everything through him who gives me strength. [14] Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. [15] Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; [16] for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need. [17] Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account. [18] I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. [19] And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. [20] To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

나의 하나님이 그리스도 예수 안에서 영광 가운데 그 풍성한 대로 너희 모든 쓸 것을 채우시리라 - 빌립보서 4:19
미시간 주 그랜드래피즈에 있는 프레데릭 마이어 식물원에서 나비들은 필요한 모든 조건을 완벽하게 갖춘 열대 천국 온실 안에서 부화를 합니다. 온도나 습도가 완벽하고, 먹이도 건강을 유지할 수 있도록 칼로리와 영양분이 완벽하게 균형을 이루고 있습니다. 다른 곳을 찾을 필요조차 없습니다. 하지만 몇몇 나비들은 온실 밖의 밝고 푸른 하늘을 보고는 풍족한 모이통에서 멀리 떨어져있는 유리천장 근처에서 펄럭이며 대부분의 시간을 보냅니다.
나는 그런 나비들에게 이렇게 말해주고 싶습니다. “너희에게 필요한 모든 것이 다 이 안에 있다는 것을 모르니? 만일 너희들이 원하는 대로 바깥으로 나가면, 밖은 춥고 거칠어서 너희들은 몇 분 안에 죽을 거야.”
이것은 하나님이 내게 주시는 메시지일 것이라는 생각이 듭니다. 그래서 나는 스스로에게 이렇게 물어봅니다. 나에게 해가 될 것을 간절히 추구하고 있는 것은 아닐까? 내게 필요 없거나 가지면 안 되는 것을 얻기 위해 에너지를 허비하고 있는 것은 아닐까? 내가 얻을 수 없는 어떤 것이 더 좋아 보여, 풍족히 베푸시는 하나님을 무시하고 있는 것은 아닐까? 내가 믿음의 가장자리에서 시간을 허비하고 있는 것은 아닐까
하나님은 그분의 풍성함으로 우리의 모든 필요를 채워주십니다(빌 4:19). 그러므로 우리에게 없는 것을 추구하기 보다는, 마음을 열어 주님께서 이미 우리에게 주신 모든 것을 감사함으로 받으시기를 바랍니다.
내가 원하는 모든 것 예수님께 있으니 주님이 만족시키시고 기쁨을 주시네 주님 없는 삶은 가치가 없으니 예수님 안에 모든 것이 있네
아무리 우리의 수요가 많아도 하나님의 공급은 결코 바닥나지 않는다.
빌립보서 4:10-20
