My friend Linda grew up planning to become a medical missionary. She loves the Lord and wanted to serve Him as a doctor by taking the gospel to sick people in parts of the world where medical care is hard to find. But God had other plans. Linda has indeed become a medical missionary, but not the way she expected.
At age 14, Linda developed a chronic health problem that required her to be hospitalized for major surgery several times a year. She survived bacterial meningitis that left her in a coma for 2 weeks and blind for 6 months. She once celebrated two birthdays in a row in the hospital—without going home in between. She has had several experiences when she was not expected to live. But yet Linda is the most vibrant, grateful, and cheerful person you will ever meet. She once told me that her mission field, as she hoped and planned, is the hospital. But instead of serving God as a doctor, she serves Him as a patient. No matter how sick she is, the light of the Lord radiates from her.
Linda exemplifies the teaching of the apostle Peter. Despite her trials, she rejoices, and the genuineness of her faith brings “praise, honor, and glory” to Jesus Christ (1 Peter1:6-7).
Lord, I’m so thankful that no matter where we are, we can serve You. Help me to reflect Your image in my current situation, even if it’s not where I hoped I would be.

1 Peter 1:1-9
[1] Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, [2] elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. 하나님의 다른 계획
[ 베드로전서 1:1 - 1:9 ] - 찬송가384장
사람이 마음으로 자기의 길을 계획할지라도 그의 걸음을 인도하시는 이는 여호와시니라 - 잠언 16:9
내 친구 린다는 커서 의료선교사가 되겠다는 생각을 하며 자랐습니다. 그녀는 주님을 사랑하며, 의료혜택이 미치지 않는 세계 곳곳에 있는 사람들에게 복음을 전하는 의사로서 하나님을 섬기고 싶어 했습니다. 하지만 하나님은 다른 계획을 가지고 계셨습니다. 린다는 실제로 의료선교사가 되기는 했지만, 그녀가 상상했던 방식은 아니었습니다.
린다는 14살 때 만성 질환에 걸려 일 년에 몇 번 큰 수술을 받기 위해 병원에 입원해 있어야 했습니다. 그녀는 세균성 뇌막염에서 회복되었지만 2주간 혼수상태에 있었고 6개월간 시력을 잃었습니다. 한번은 두 번의 생일을 연달아 병원에서 맞이하기도 했습니다. 그사이에 집에도 가지 못한 채 말입니다. 그녀는 죽을 고비를 몇 번이나 넘겼습니다. 그러나 린다는 세상에서 가장 활기차고 감사가 넘치며 쾌활한 사람입니다. 그녀가 한번은 나에게 자신이 바라고 계획했던 대로 자신의 선교 현장은 병원이라고 얘기했습니다. 하지만 의사로서 하나님을 섬기는 대신, 그녀는 환자로서 섬기고 있습니다. 그녀가 아무리 많이 아파도 그녀에게서는 주님의 빛이 비쳐 나옵니다.
린다는 베드로사도의 가르침을 그대로 보여주는 예입니다. 시련에도 불구하고 그녀는 기뻐하고, 그녀의 진실한 믿음은 예수 그리스도께 “칭찬과 영광과 존귀”를 가져옵니다(벧전 1:6-7).
주님, 우리가 어디에 있든지 주님을 섬길 수 있어서 너무나 감사합니다. 비록 내가 원했던 장소가 아니라 하더라도, 현재의 상황에서 주님의 형상을
나타낼 수 있도록 도와주소서.
당신의 계획을 연필로 쓰라. 그리고 하나님이 지우개를 가지고 계심을 기억하라.
