| October 9, 2013 — by Marvin Williams | | | Life Without Bread | | [ John 6:25 - 6:35 ] - hymn183 | | | I am the bread of life. — John 6:48 | In cultures with an abundance of food choices, bread is no longer a necessary part of the diet so some choose to live without it for various reasons. In the first century, however, bread was viewed as an essential staple. A diet without bread was a foreign concept.
One day a crowd of people sought out Jesus because He had performed the miracle of multiplying loaves of bread (John 6:11,26). They asked Him to perform a sign like the manna from heaven that God had provided for His people in the desert (6:30-31; Ex.16:4). When Jesus said He was “the true bread from heaven”(John 6:32), the people didn’t understand. They wanted literal daily bread. But Jesus was saying that He had been sent to be their spiritual bread; He would supply their daily spiritual needs. If they, by faith, applied and took His words and life into their very souls, they would experience everlasting satisfaction (v.35).
Jesus doesn’t want to be an optional commodity in our diets; He desires to be the essential staple in our lives, our “necessary” food. As first-century Jews could never imagine life without physical bread, may we never attempt to live without Jesus, our spiritual bread! |
John 6:25-35
[25] And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, "Rabbi, when did You come here?"
[26] Jesus answered them and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
[27] "Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."
[28] Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?"
[29] Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."
[30] Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?
[31] "Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'"
[32] Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
[33] "For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
[34] Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."
[35] And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. |
| | 2013년 10월 09일 (수) | | | 빵이 없는 삶 | | [ 요한복음 6:25 - 6:35 ] - 찬송가 183장 | | | 내가 곧 생명의 떡이니라 - 요한복음 6:48 | 음식을 아주 다양하게 선택할 수 있는 문화권에서는 빵이 더 이상 식단에 필수적인 음식이 아니어서, 어떤 이들은 여러 가지 이유로 빵을 먹지 않고 살아갑니다. 그러나 1세기 때에는, 빵은 필수적인 주식이었으며 빵 없는 식사는 생각할 수도 없었습니다.
예수님이 오병이어의 기적을 행하셨기 때문에 어느 날 많은 무리들이 예수님을 찾아왔습니다(요 6:11, 26). 그들은 예수님께 하나님이 광야에서 이스라엘백성들에게 공급해주셨던 하늘에서 내려온 만나와 같은 표적을 행해보라고 요구했습니다(6:30-31; 출 16:4). 예수님은 예수님 자신이 “하늘로부터 내려온 참 떡”(요 6:32)이라고 말씀하셨지만 사람들은 이해하지 못했습니다. 그들은 글자 그대로 생계를 위한 양식을 원했던 것입니다. 그러나 예수님은 그들을 위한 영의 양식으로 보내심을 받았다고 말씀하신 것이었으며, 그들에게 매일 필요한 영적 양식을 공급해주시려 하신 것이었습니다. 그들이 믿음으로 예수님의 말씀과 생명을 그들의 영혼 안으로 받아들이고 적용했다면, 그들은 영원한 만족을 경험했을 것입니다(35절).
예수님은 자신이 우리의 음식물 중에서 임의로 선택할 수 있는 일용품이 되는 걸 원치 않으십니다. 오히려 우리의 삶에서 필수적인 주식, 곧 “없어서는 안 될” 양식이 되기를 갈망하십니다. 1세기 때에 유대인들이 육신을 위한 빵이 없는 삶을 결코 상상할 수 없었던 것처럼, 우리도 우리의 영적인 양식이 되시는 예수님 없이 살아가려는 시도는 절대로 해서는 안 됩니다. |
요한복음 6:25-35
[25] 바다 건너편에서 만나 랍비여 언제 여기 오셨나이까 하니
[26] 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 나를 찾는 것은 표적을 본 까닭이 아니요 떡을 먹고 배부른 까닭이로다
[27] 썩을 양식을 위하여 일하지 말고 영생하도록 있는 양식을 위하여 하라 이 양식은 인자가 너희에게 주리니 인자는 아버지 하나님께서 인치신 자니라
[28] 그들이 묻되 우리가 어떻게 하여야 하나님의 일을 하오리이까
[29] 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 하나님께서 보내신 이를 믿는 것이 하나님의 일이니라 하시니
[30] 그들이 묻되 그러면 우리가 보고 당신을 믿도록 행하시는 표적이 무엇이니이까, 하시는 일이 무엇이니이까
[31] 기록된 바 하늘에서 그들에게 떡을 주어 먹게 하였다 함과 같이 우리 조상들은 광야에서 만나를 먹었나이다
