| October 18, 2013 - by Joe Stowell | | | The End? | | [ 1 Corinthians 15:50 - 15:58 ] - hymn167 | | | But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. — 1 Corinthians 15:57 | Everything in this world eventually comes to an end, which at times can be disheartening. It’s the feeling you get when you read a book that’s so good you don’t want it to end. Or when you watch a movie that you wish would go on a little while longer.
But all things—good and bad—do come to “The End.” In fact, life ultimately does come to the end—sometimes sooner than we expect. All of us who have stood by the casket of a loved one know the painful emptiness of a heart that wishes it wasn’t over yet.
Thankfully, Jesus steps into the fray of terminal disappointments, and, through His death and resurrection, He interjects hope for us. In Him “the end” is a prelude to a death-free eternity, and words like “it’s over” are replaced by a joy-filled “forever.” Since our bodies are not an eternal reality, Paul assures us that “we shall all be changed”(1 Cor.15:51) and reminds us that because of Christ’s conquering work we can confidently say, “O Death, ... where is your victory?”(v.55).
So let not your heart be troubled. Our sorrow is real, but we can be filled with gratitude because God “gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”(v.57). |

1 Corinthians 15:50-58
[50] Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
[51] Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed--
[52] in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
[53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
[54] So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."
[55] "O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?"
[56] The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
[57] But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
[58] Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. |
| | 2013년 10월 18일 (금) | | | 끝? | | [ 고린도전서 15:50 - 15:58 ] - 찬송가 167장 | | | 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시는 하나님께 감사하노니 - 고린도전서 15:57 | 이 세상 모든 것에는 결국 끝이 있는데, 어떤 경우에는 그것이 실망스러울 때가 있습니다. 책을 읽으면서 내용이 너무 좋아서 끝나지 않기를 바라거나, 혹은 영화를 보면서 조금 더 계속 되었으면 하고 바랄 때 가지게 되는 그런 느낌을 말합니다.
하지만 모든 일들은 좋건 나쁘건 “끝”이 있습니다. 사실 생명도 결국은 끝이 나는데, 어떤 때는 우리가 예상했던 것보다 더 빨리 오기도 합니다. 사랑하는 사람의 관 옆에 서 있어 본 경험이 있는 우리는 모두 이것이 끝이 아니었으면 하고 바라던 그 마음의 괴로운 공허감을 잘 알고 있습니다.
감사하게도 예수님은 가망 없는 절망의 소용돌이 속으로 들어오셔서 주님의 죽음과 부활을 통해 우리에게 희망을 부어주셨습니다. 예수님 안에서 “끝”은 죽음이 없는 영생의 서곡이며, “이제는 끝났다”라는 말은 기쁨이 가득한 “영원히”란 말로 대체됩니다. 우리의 육체가 영생의 실체가 아니기 때문에, 바울은 “우리가 변화될 것”(고전 15:51)이라고 확신시켜주며, 주님의 승리하심으로 말미암아 우리가 자신 있게 “사망아 너의 승리가 어디 있느냐(55절)”라고 말할 수 있도록 일깨워줍니다.
그러므로 근심하지 마십시오. 실제로 슬픈 일이 있더라도 하나님이 “우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 승리를 주시”(57절)기에 우리 마음은 감사로 가득 채워질 수 있습니다. |

[50] 형제들아 내가 이것을 말하노니 혈과 육은 하나님 나라를 이어 받을 수 없고 또한 썩는 것은 썩지 아니하는 것을 유업으로 받지 못하느니라
[51] 보라 내가 너희에게 비밀을 말하노니 우리가 다 잠 잘 것이 아니요 마지막 나팔에 순식간에 홀연히 다 변화되리니
[52] 나팔 소리가 나매 죽은 자들이 썩지 아니할 것으로 다시 살아나고 우리도 변화되리라
