Roper The Hidden Life [ Colossians 3:12 - 3:17 ] - hymn326 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. — Colossians 3:17 Some years ago, I came across a poem by George MacDonald titled, “The Hidden Life.” http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-hidden-life-2/ It tells the story of an intellectually gifted young Scot who turned his back on a prestigious academic career to return to his aging father and to the family farm. There he engaged in what MacDonald called, “ordinary deeds” and “simple forms of human helpfulness.” His friends lamented what they saw as a waste of his talents. Perhaps you too serve in some unnoticed place, doing nothing more than ordinary deeds. Others might think that’s a waste. But God wastes nothing. Every act of love rendered for His sake is noted and has eternal consequences. Every place, no matter how small, is holy ground. Influence is more than lofty acts and words. It can be a simple matter of human helpfulness: being present, listening, understanding the need, loving, and praying. This is what turns daily duty into worship and service. The apostle Paul challenged the Colossians: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,” and “do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance”(Col.3:17,23-24). God takes notice and delights in using us.     Dear Lord, may I be willing to be hidden and unknown today, yet ready to speak  a word to those who are weary. May Your Spirit touch my words and make them Your words that enrich and refresh others. The way to accomplish much for Christ is to serve Him in any way we can. Colossians 3:12-17 [12] Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; [13] bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. [14] But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. [15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. [17] And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

2014년 01월 08일 (수) 드러나지 않는 삶 [ 골로새서 3:12 - 3:17 ] - 찬송가 326장 무엇을 하든지 말에나 일에나 다 주 예수의 이름으로 하고 - 골로새서 3:17 여러 해 전 조지 맥도널드가 지은 시 「드러나지 않는 삶」을 우연히 읽었습니다. http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-hidden-life-2/ 그 시는 재능을 타고난 젊은 스코틀랜드 사람이 칭송받는 학자의 길을 뒤로 하고 나이 드신 아버지와 가족농장으로 돌아가는 이야기를 담고 있습니다. 맥도널드는 그곳에서 그의 표현에 의하면 “평범한 일”과 “사람들에게 도움이 되는 단순 노동”에 열중했습니다. 친구들은 그가 재능을 낭비한다고 생각하고 슬퍼하였습니다. 당신도 아마 지극히 평범한 일을 하면서 주목받지 못하는 곳에서 섬기고 있을지도 모릅니다. 사람들은 그것을 낭비라고 생각할지 모릅니다. 그러나 하나님은 아무것도 낭비하시지 않습니다. 하나님을 위해 드려진 모든 사랑의 행동은 다 기록되어 영원한 결과를 얻게 됩니다. 아무리 작은 곳이라도 모든 장소는 거룩한 곳입니다. 그리고 감화시키는 것이 고상한 행동이나 말보다도 훨씬 더 중요합니다. 이는 그저 함께 있어주거나, 말을 잘 들어주거나, 필요를 이해해주거나, 사랑해주거나, 기도하는 것처럼 사람들에게 도움이 되는 소박한 것들일 수 있습니다. 이것은 일상적인 의무가 예배와 섬김으로 바뀌는 것을 의미합니다. 바울사도는 골로새 교회에게 “무엇을 하든지 말에나 일에나 다 주 예수의 이름으로 하고”, “마음을 다하여 주께 하듯 하고 사람에게 하듯 하지 말라 이는 기업의 상을 주께 받을 줄 아나니”(골 3:17,23-24)라는 말씀으로 도전을 주었습니다. 하나님은 다 알고 계시며 우리를 사용하기를 기뻐하십니다.     사랑하는 주님, 내가 오늘 드러나지 않고 알려지지 않게 해주시되, 곤고한 자들에게 말할 수 있도록 준비시켜 주소서. 성령님이 나의 말을 주장하셔서 내 말이 다른 사람들을 풍요롭고 새롭게 하는 주님의 말이 되게 해주소서. 그리스도를 위해 많이 성취할 수 있는 방법은 우리가 할 수 있는 모든 방법으로 그분을 섬기는 것이다. 골로새서 3:12-17 [12] 그러므로 너희는 하나님이 택하사 거룩하고 사랑 받는 자처럼 긍휼과 자비와 겸손과 온유와 오래 참음을 옷 입고 [13] 누가 누구에게 불만이 있거든 서로 용납하여 피차 용서하되 주께서 너희를 용서하신 것 같이 너희도 그리하고 [14] 이 모든 것 위에 사랑을 더하라 이는 온전하게 매는 띠니라 [15] 그리스도의 평강이 너희 마음을 주장하게 하라 너희는 평강을 위하여 한 몸으로 부르심을 받았나니 너희는 또한 감사하는 자가 되라 [16] 그리스도의 말씀이 너희 속에 풍성히 거하여 모든 지혜로 피차 가르치며 권면하고 시와 찬송과 신령한 노래를 부르며 감사하는 마음으로 하나님을 찬양하고 [17] 또 무엇을 하든지 말에나 일에나 다 주 예수의 이름으로 하고 그를 힘입어 하나님 아버지께 감사하라
