God will wipe away every tear from their eyes ... There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. — Revelation 21:4
Just 4 weeks after our son Mark joined the US Army, he injured his knee seriously in a training exercise. As a result, he was released from the military. So, at age 19, he had to use a cane to get around for a while; and because of the severity of the injury he endured 2 years of recovery, rest, and rehab. Finally, Mark was able to set aside the knee braces he had worn since the accident. Although he still experiences residual pain, the long, slow healing process has brought him back to full use of his leg.
Physical healing is often much slower than we anticipate. This is true of spiritual healing as well. The consequences of unwise choices or the actions of hurtful people can create burdens or wounds that endure for a lifetime. But for the child of God, there is hope. Although full restoration is not always experienced in this life, the promise of healing is sure. The apostle John wrote, “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away”(Rev.21:4).
In our seasons of pain, it is comforting to know that eventually, in His awesome presence, we will be whole forever. — Bill Crowder
Father, I thank You that in all of our pains and struggles we can find comfort in You. Help us to bring all our hurts to You—both spiritual and physical—and to trust that
You will make us whole.
When we come to Christ in our brokenness,
He makes us whole.
Revelation 21:1-8
[1] Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. [2] Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [4] "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." [5] Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." [6] And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. [7] "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. [8] "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

더딘 치유 과정
[ 요한계시록 21:1 - 21:8 ] - 찬송가272장
[하나님이] 모든 눈물을 그 눈에서 닦아 주시니…아픈 것이 다시 있지 아니하리니 처음 것들이 다 지나갔음이러라 - 요한계시록 21:4
아들 마크가 미 육군에 입대한 지 4주 만에 훈련을 받다가 무릎을 심하게 다쳐서 군에서 제대하게 되었습니다. 그는 열아홉 살의 나이에 한동안 지팡이를 사용해서 걸어야 했습니다. 부상이 심각해서 회복과 요양, 그리고 재활하는데 2년이란 시간을 보내고 나서, 마침내 마크는 사고 후 착용해오던 무릎 보호대를 떼어낼 수 있었습니다. 아직 통증이 남아있긴 하지만 길고 더딘 치유과정이 끝난 후 그는 다시 다리 전체를 사용해 걷게 되었습니다.
육체의 치유는 종종 예상하는 것보다 훨씬 더 느립니다. 이것은 영적치유도 마찬가지입니다. 지혜롭지 못한 선택으로 인한 결과나 남에게 상처 주는 사람의 행동은 평생 동안 견뎌야 할 짐이나 고통을 유발하기도 합니다. 그러나 하나님의 자녀에게는 희망이 있습니다. 이 세상에서 항상 완전한 회복을 경험하는 것은 아니지만 치유의 약속은 확실하기 때문입니다. 사도요한은 “[하나님이] 모든 눈물을 그 눈에서 닦아주시니 다시 사망이 없고 애통하는 것이나 곡하는 것이나 아픈 것이 다시 있지 아니하리니 처음 것들이 다 지나갔음이러라”(계 21:4)라고 기록하고 있습니다.
고통을 겪는 중에도, 하나님의 놀라운 임재 가운데 마침내 우리가 영원히 온전해진다는 것을 안다면 위안이 될 것입니다.
하나님 아버지, 우리의 아픔과 고투 중에도 주님 안에서 위안을 찾게 하시니 감사합니다. 우리의 모든 영적, 육적인 상처를 하나님께 아뢰고 우리를 온전케 하실 하나님을
신뢰할 수 있도록 도와주소서.
우리가 깨어진 모습으로 예수님 앞에 나올 때, 주님은 우리를 온전하게 만들어주신다.
