26 February Thu, 2015 Changed Perspective [ Acts 17:16 - 17:23 ] - hymn438 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked ithin him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. — Acts 17:16 As an early riser, my wife enjoys the quiet moments before the house wakes up and uses it to read the Bible and pray. Recently she settled into her favorite chair, only to be confronted by a rather messy couch left there by “someone”watching a football game the night before. The mess distracted her at first, and her frustration with me interrupted the warmth of the moment. Then a thought hit her, and she moved to the couch. From there, she could look out our front windows to the sun rising over the Atlantic Ocean. The beauty of the scene God painted that morning changed her perspective. As she told me the story, we both recognized the lesson of the morning. While we can’t always control the things of life that impact our day, we do have a choice. We can continue to brood over the “mess,”or we can change our perspective. When Paul was in Athens, “he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols”(Acts 17:16 NIV). But when he changed his perspective, he used their interest in religion as an opportunity to proclaim the true God, Jesus Christ (vv.22-23). As my wife left for work, it was time for someone else to change his perspective─for me to let the Lord help me to see my messes through her eyes and His. — Randy Kilgore     Dear Lord, grant us the wisdom to change our perspective rather than linger over messes. Help us to see─and fix─the “messes” we make for others. Wisdom is seeing things from God’s perspective. [17] Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. [18] Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, "What does this babbler want to say?" Others said, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods," because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection. [19] And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? [20] "For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean." [21] For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing. [22] Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; [23] "for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the one whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:

2015년 02월 26일 (목) 바뀐 관점 [ 사도행전 17:16 - 17:23 ] - 찬송가 438장 바울이 아덴에서 그들을 기다리다가 그 성에 우상이 가득한 것을 보고 마음에 격분하여 — 사도행전 17:16 아내는 일찍 일어나 다른 사람들이 일어나기 전의 조용한 시간을 즐기면서 그 시간을 성경을 읽고 기도하는 데 사용합니다. 그런데 최근에 아내가 자신이 좋아하는 의자에 막 앉았을 때, 전날 밤 미식축구 경기를 시청한 “누군가”가 마주 보이는 소파를 마구 어질러 놓은 것을 보게 되었습니다. 처음에는 그 너저분한 것 때문에 정신이 산만해지다가, 나중에는 나에 대한 실망감으로 인해 그 포근한 시간이 방해를 받게 되었습니다. 그때 불현듯 어떤 생각이 떠올라 아내는 소파로 옮겨 앉았습니다. 그녀는 거기서 창 너머로 대서양 바다 위로 떠오르는 태양을 바라볼 수 있었습니다. 그날 아침 하나님이 그려내신 그 아름다운 광경이 그녀의 관점을 바꾸어주었습니다. 아내가 나에게 그 이야기를 해주었을 때, 우리는 둘 다 그 아침이 가져다준 가르침을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 우리의 일상에 나쁜 영향을 끼치는 일들을 우리가 항상 조절할 수는 없지만, 선택은 할 수 있습니다. 우리는 계속해서 “엉망진창된 것”을 되씹든지, 아니면 우리의 관점을 바꾸든지 할 수 있습니다. 바울이 아테네에 있을 때, “그 성에 우상이 가득한 것을 보고 마음에 격분”(행 17:16)하였습니다. 그러나 그가 보는 관점을 바꾸었을 때, 그는 그들의 종교에 대한 관심을 참 하나님이신 예수 그리스도를 선포하는 기회로 사용하였습니다(22-23절). 아내가 일하러 나가자 이제는 다른 누군가가 관점을 바꾸어야 할 시간이 되었습니다. 아내의 눈과 주님의 눈을 통해 보았던 나의 엉망진창인 모습을 이제는 내가 볼 수 있도록 주님이 나를 도우시게 할 시간이었습니다.— Randy Kilgore     사랑하는 주님, 우리에게 지혜를 주셔서 엉망진창인 모습에 매이지 말고 우리의 관점을 바꾸어 주소서. 우리를 도우셔서 다른 사람들에게 저지르는 우리의 “엉망진창인 모습”을 스스로 고칠 수 있게 하소서. 지혜는 하나님의 관점에서 모든 것들을 보는 것이다. 사도행전 17:16-23 [16] 바울이 아덴에서 그들을 기다리다가 그 성에 우상이 가득한 것을 보고 마음에 격분하여 [17] 회당에서는 유대인과 경건한 사람들과 또 장터에서는 날마다 만나는 사람들과 변론하니 [18] 어떤 에피쿠로스와 스토아 철학자들도 바울과 쟁론할새 어떤 사람은 이르되 이 말쟁이가 무슨 말을 하고자 하느냐 하고 어떤 사람은 이르되 이방 신들을 전하는 사람인가보다 하니 이는 바울이 예수와 부활을 전하기 때문이러라 [19] 그를 붙들어 아레오바고로 가며 말하기를 네가 말하는 이 새로운 가르침이 무엇인지 우리가 알 수 있겠느냐 [20] 네가 어떤 이상한 것을 우리 귀에 들려 주니 그 무슨 뜻인지 알고자 하노라 하니 [21] 모든 아덴 사람과 거기서 나그네 된 외국인들이 가장 새로운 것을 말하고 듣는 것 이외에는 달리 시간을 쓰지 않음이더라 [22] 바울이 아레오바고 가운데 서서 말하되 아덴 사람들아 너희를 보니 범사에 종교심이 많도다 [23] 내가 두루 다니며 너희가 위하는 것들을 보다가 알지 못하는 신에게라고 새긴 단도 보았으니 그런즉 너희가 알지 못하고 위하는 그것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하리라

Insight: The Areopagus (vv.19, 22) was like and ancient philosophical think tank. there the wisest thinkers and philosophers of the day would assemble to wrestle with important ideas and teachings. This made it the ideal place for Paul to present the good news and teaching of Jesus.
