After graduation from college, I had a low-paying job. Money was tight, and sometimes I didn’t even have enough for my next meal. I learned to trust God for my daily provision. It reminded me of the prophet Elijah’s experience. During his prophetic ministry, he learned to trust God to meet his daily needs. Shortly after Elijah pronounced God’s judgment of a drought in Israel, God sent him to a deserted place, Kerith Ravine, where He used the ravens to bring Elijah his daily meals and refresh him with water from the brook(1 Kings 17:1–4). But a drought occurred. The brook shrank to a tiny stream, and slowly became a mere trickle. It was only when the brook had dried up that God said: “Go at once to Zarephath . . . . I have directed a widow there to supply you with food”(v. 9). Zarephath was in Phoenicia, whose inhabitants were enemies of the Israelites. Would anyone offer Elijah shelter? And would a poor widow have food to share? Most of us would rather God provided in abundance long before our resources were depleted rather than just enough for each day. But our loving Father whispers, Trust Me. Just as He used ravens and a widow to provide for Elijah, nothing is impossible for Him. We can count on His love and power to meet our daily needs. 대학 졸업 후 나는 저임금 직업을 가졌습니다. 돈은 빠듯했고, 가끔은 다음번 끼니를 때우기가 힘든 때도 있었습니다. 나는 ‘일용할’ 양식에 대해 하나님을 신뢰하는 법을 배웠습니다. 그것은 나에게 엘리야 선지자의 경험을 떠올려주었습니다. 선지자 사역을 하는 동안 그는 매일의 필요를 채우기 위해 하나님을 신뢰하는 법을 배웠습니다. 엘리야가 이스라엘에 가뭄이 있을 것이라는 하나님의 심판을 선포한 바로 직후 하나님은 그를 황량한 곳 그릿 시냇가로 보내시고, 그곳에서 까마귀들을 통해 일용할 양식을 가져다주시고 시냇물로 생기를 얻게 하셨습니다(왕상 17:1-4). 그런데 가뭄이 들자 시냇물은 말라서 실개천이 되었고 서서히 가는 물줄기로 변해갔습니다. 그 개울이 바짝 마르자 비로소 하나님은 “사르밧으로 가라…내가 그곳 과부에게 명령하여 네게 음식을 주게 하였느니라”(9절)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 사르밧은 이스라엘의 적들이 살고 있는 베니게에 있었습니다. 어느 누가 엘리야에게 쉴 곳을 제공해주겠습니까? 가난한 과부가 나눠줄 음식을 가지고 있겠습니까? 우리 대부분은 가까스로 하루하루를 견딜 양보다는 우리가 가진 것이 고갈되기 훨씬 전에 하나님이 풍부하게 공급해주시기를 바랍니다. 그러나 우리를 사랑하시는 하나님 아버지는 “나를 믿으라”고 속삭이십니다. 하나님이 엘리야를 먹이시기 위해 까마귀와 과부를 사용하신 것처럼, 하나님에게는 불가능할 것이 없습니다. 우리는 우리의 일상의 필요를 채우시는 하나님의 사랑과 능력을 신뢰할 수 있습니다.
• Faithful Father, thank You for knowing exactly what we need before we even ask. Help us to trust You for our daily needs.
God supplies all our needs—one day at a time.
7. Hushai replied to Absalom, "The advice Ahithophel has given is not good this time. 8. You know your father and his men; they are fighters, and as fierce as a wild bear robbed of her cubs. Besides, your father is an experienced fighter; he will not spend the night with the troops. 9. Even now, he is hidden in a cave or some other place. If he should attack your troops first, whoever hears about it will say, `There has been a slaughter among the troops who follow Absalom.' 10. Then even the bravest soldier, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will melt with fear, for all Israel knows that your father is a fighter and that those with him are brave. 11. "So I advise you: Let all Israel, from Dan to Beersheba -- as numerous as the sand on the seashore -- be gathered to you, with you yourself leading them into battle. 12. Then we will attack him wherever he may be found, and we will fall on him as dew settles on the ground. Neither he nor any of his men will be left alive. 13. If he withdraws into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it down to the valley until not even a piece of it can be found." 14. Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than that of Ahithophel." For the LORD had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom. 15. Hushai told Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, "Ahithophel has advised Absalom and the elders of Israel to do such and such, but I have advised them to do so and so. 16. Now send a message immediately and tell David, `Do not spend the night at the fords in the desert; cross over without fail, or the king and all the people with him will be swallowed up.'"
• 신실하신 하나님 아버지, 우리가 구하기도 전에 우리의 필요를 정확히 알고 계시니 감사합니다. 일상의 필요를 위해 하나님을 신뢰할 수 있도록 도와주소서.
하나님은 그날그날 우리의 모든 필요를 채워주신다.
7. 후새가 압살롬에게 이르되 이번에는 아히도벨이 베푼 계략이 좋지 아니하니이다 하고 8. 또 후새가 말하되 왕도 아시거니와 왕의 아버지와 그의 추종자들은 용사라 그들은 들에 있는 곰이 새끼를 빼앗긴 것 같이 격분하였고 왕의 부친은 전쟁에 익숙한 사람인즉 백성과 함께 자지 아니하고 9. 지금 그가 어느 굴에나 어느 곳에 숨어 있으리니 혹 무리 중에 몇이 먼저 엎드러지면 그 소문을 듣는 자가 말하기를 압살롬을 따르는 자 가운데에서 패함을 당하였다 할지라 10. 비록 그가 사자 같은 마음을 가진 용사의 아들일지라도 낙심하리니 이는 이스라엘 무리가 왕의 아버지는 영웅이요 그의 추종자들도 용사인 줄 앎이니이다 11. 나는 이렇게 계략을 세웠나이다 온 이스라엘을 단부터 브엘세바까지 바닷가의 많은 모래 같이 당신께로 모으고 친히 전장에 나가시고 12. 우리가 그 만날 만한 곳에서 그를 기습하기를 이슬이 땅에 내림 같이 우리가 그의 위에 덮여 그와 그 함께 있는 모든 사람을 하나도 남겨 두지 아니할 것이요 13. 또 만일 그가 어느 성에 들었으면 온 이스라엘이 밧줄을 가져다가 그 성을 강으로 끌어들여서 그 곳에 작은 돌 하나도 보이지 아니하게 할 것이니이다 하매 14. 압살롬과 온 이스라엘 사람들이 이르되 아렉 사람 후새의 계략은 아히도벨의 계략보다 낫다 하니 이는 여호와께서 압살롬에게 화를 내리려 하사 아히도벨의 좋은 계략을 물리치라고 명령하셨음이더라 15. ○이에 후새가 사독과 아비아달 두 제사장에게 이르되 아히도벨이 압살롬과 이스라엘 장로들에게 이러이러하게 계략을 세웠고 나도 이러이러하게 계략을 세웠으니 16. 이제 너희는 빨리 사람을 보내 다윗에게 전하기를 오늘밤에 광야 나루터에서 자지 말고 아무쪼록 건너가소서 하라 혹시 왕과 그를 따르는 모든 백성이 몰사할까 하노라 하니라
