In the mid-1970s, divorce filings and final decrees appeared in the Public Records section of our local newspaper. Rev. Bill Flanagan, a pastor at our church, read those names week after week and began to picture people, not statistics. So he created a Divorce Recovery Workshop to offer help and healing in Christ to hurting people during a difficult time. When concerned church members told Bill he was condoning divorce, he softly replied that he was simply extending God’s grace to folks in need.		1970년대 중반에 이혼소송들과 그 최종판결문들이 우리 지역에서 발간되는 신문의 공지사항에 실렸습니다. 우리 교회 목회자 중 한 분이신 빌 플래내이건 목사는 몇 주 동안 신문에 기록된 이름들을 읽으면서 통계치 자체보다는 해당되는 사람들을 염두에 두기 시작하였습니다. 결국 그는 이혼자회복 워크샵을 개최하여 이혼 후 상처를 입고 힘든 시간을 지내는 사람들에게 예수님 안에서 도움과 치유를 공급해 주려고 하였습니다. 이혼에 관용을 베푸는 것이 아니냐며 빌에게 우려를 표명하는 교회 성도들에게 그는 필요한 이들에게 하나님의 은혜의 손길을 내미는 것에 불과하다고 조용하게 응답하였습니다.
When Jesus invited Matthew the tax collector to follow Him, he accepted. Matthew then invited Jesus to dinner at his house. After the religious leaders criticized Him for eating with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance” (Matt. 9:12-13). Jesus, the Great Physician, wants to meet each of us at our point of need, offering forgiveness, healing, and hope. What we don’t deserve, He freely gives.		예수님께서 세리였던 마태를 제자로 불렀을 때 마태는 따랐습니다. 그리고 그는 예수님을 자기 집에 초대하여 저녁식사를 같이 했습니다. 바리새인들이 세리와 죄인들과 함께 식사를 했다는 이유로 주님을 비판하자, 예수님께서는 “건강한 자에게는 의원이 쓸데없고 병든 자에게라야 쓸데 있느니라 너희는 가서 내가 긍휼을 원하고 제사를 원치 아니하노라 하신 뜻이 무엇인지 배우라 내가 의인을 부르러 온 것이 아니요 죄인을 부르러 왔노라”(마태복음 9:12- 13)고 하셨습니다. 위대한 의사인 예수님은 필요한 때에 우리 각자에게 나타나셔서 용서하고 치유하며 희망주시기를 원하십니다. 주님은 받을 자격이 없는 우리들에게 아무런 대가도 없이 베푸십니다.
By reaching out to people in need, we can extend to others this grace of God in Christ—guiding them to His healing touch.		도움이 필요한 사람들에게 다가가 섬김으로써 우리는 그리스도 안에 있는 하나님의 이 은혜를 다른 사람들에게 베풀어줄 수 있고 그들을 주님의 치유하는 손길로 인도할 수 있습니다.
There’s advantage in our weakness,  There is blessing in our pain;  It is when we’re feeling helpless  That God’s grace and strength sustain. —Fitzhugh		우리가 약할 때 이득이 있으며  우리가 고통당할 때 축복이 있네  우리가 무력함을 느끼는 바로 그 때  하나님의 은혜와 능력이 역사하기 때문이네
When you know God’s grace, you’ll want to show God’s grace.		하나님의 은혜를 알게 되면 그 은혜를 보여주고 싶은 마음이 생긴다.

Matthew Called

 ^9 (A)As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called ^(B)Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He *said to him, “^(C)Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

 ¹⁰ Then it happened that as ^[a]Jesus was reclining at the table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and ^[b]sinners came and were dining with Jesus and His disciples. ¹¹ When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, “^(D)Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?” ¹² But when Jesus heard this, He said, “It is not ^(E)those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. ¹³ But go and learn ^[c](F)what this means: ‘^(G)I DESIRE^[d]COMPASSION, ^[e]AND NOT SACRIFICE,’ for ^(H)I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
