For many years, Allen Funt's Candid Camera television pro-gram delighted viewers by using a hidden camera to catch the often hilarious reactions of ordinary people to unexpected situations. Their approach, according to his son Peter was: "We believe people are wonder-ful, and we're out to confirm it." Peter feels the perspective of some other similar shows is that "people are stupid, and we're going to fi-nd ways to underscore that."
His comments point out that our view of people determines how we treat them.
The citizens of Jericho were offended when Jesus went to the home of Zacchaeus the tax collector. "When they saw it, they all complained, saying, 'He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner'" (Luke 19:7). Yet, when Zacchaeus had a deep change of heart (v.8), Jesus told him, "Today salvation has come to this house ... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost"(vv.9-10).
My friend Bob Horner says, "When we see people as los-ers, we treat them with contempt. When we see them as lost, we treat them with compassion."
Jesus doesn't see losers, only lost people He loves. When we look at others, who do we see? -David McCasland |

Luke 19:1-10
[1] Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
[2] Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
[3] And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.
[4] So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way.
[5] And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house."
[6] So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.
[7] But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, "He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner."
[8] Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."
[9] And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham;

여러 해 동안, 앨런 펀트의 ‘솔직한 카메라’라는 텔레비전 프로그램은 평범한 사람들이 예기치 못한 상황에서 종종 우스꽝스럽게 반응하는 것을 몰래 카메라로 찍어서 시청자들을 즐겁게 해주었습니다. 그의 아들 피터에 따르면 그들의 기본 접근방식은 “사람들이 대단한 존재라는 것을 믿고, 단지 그것을 확인하러 밖으로 나가는 것”이었습니다. 반면에 피터는 비슷한 다른 프로그램들은 “사람들은 어리석다. 우리는 그것을 강조하기 위한 방법을 찾을 것이다.”라는 시각을 가지고 있다고 봅니다.
그의 견해는 사람들에 대한 우리의 관점이 우리가 그들을 어떻게 대하는가를 결정한다는 것을 지적해줍니다.
예수님이 세리 삭개오의 집에 갔을 때, 여리고 사람들은 “보고 수군거려 이르되 저가 죄인의 집에 유하러 들어갔도다’”(눅 19:7)라고 하며 화를 냈습니다. 그렇지만 삭개오의 마음에 깊은 변화가 있었을 때(8절), 예수님은 그에게 “오늘 구원이 이 집에 이르렀으니...인자가 온 것은 잃어버린 자를 찾아 구원하려 함이니라”(9-10절)라고 말씀하셨습니다.
내 친구 밥 호너는 “우리가 어떤 사람들을 실패자로 보면 우리는 그들을 경멸하게 되고, 잃어버린 자로 보면 우리는 그들을 동정심으로 대하게 된다.”라고 말합니다.
예수님은 우리를 실패자로 보지 않으시고, 주님이 사랑하시는 잃어 버린 자로 보십니다. 다른 사람을 볼 때 우리는 그들을 누구로 봅니까? |

누가복음 19:1-10
[1] 예수께서 여리고로 들어 지나가시더라
[2] 삭개오라 이름하는 자가 있으니 세리장이요 또한 부자라
[3] 저가 예수께서 어떠한 사람인가 하여 보고자 하되 키가 작고 사람이 많아 할 수 없어
[4] 앞으로 달려가 보기 위하여 뽕나무에 올라가니 이는 예수께서 그리로 지나가시게 됨이러라
[5] 예수께서 그 곳에 이르사 우러러 보시고 이르시되 삭개오야 속히 내려오라 내가 오늘 네 집에 유하여야 하겠다 하시니
[6] 급히 내려와 즐거워하며 영접하거늘
[7] 뭇사람이 보고 수군거려 가로되 저가 죄인의 집에 유하러 들어갔도다 하더라
[8] 삭개오가 서서 주께 여짜오되 주여 보시옵소서 내 소유의 절반을 가난한 자들에게 주겠사오며 만일 뉘 것을 토색한 일이 있으면 사 배나 갚겠나이다
