For more than a century, the pinnacle of golf has been to score 59-a score that had been recorded only three times in PGA Tour his-tory before 2010. Then, in 2010, Paul Goydos scored a 59-only to be equaled a month later by Stuart Appleby’s 59. Consequently, some sportswriters speculated that the most coveted achievement in golf was now becoming commonplace! It’s amazing to see two 59s in the same season, but it would be a mistake to begin to view this as ordinary.
For those who follow Jesus Christ, it is also a mistake to view the remarkable as ordinary. Think about prayer for instance. At any moment we can talk to the Creator God who spoke the universe into existence! Not only are we wel-comed into His presence, but we are invited to enter boldly: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and fi-nd grace to help in time of need”(Heb. 4:16).
There is nothing ordinary about access to God-yet sometimes we take this privilege for granted. He is almighty God, but He is also our Father who loves us and allows us to call on Him at any moment of any day. Now that’s extraordinary! - Bill Crowder |

Romans 8:12-26
[12] Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
[13] For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
[15] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
[16] The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
[17] and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
[18] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
[19] For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
[20] For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
[21] because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
[22] For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
[23] Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
[24] For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
[25] But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
[26] Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | |

평범과 비범

백년이 넘도록 골프의 최고점수로 기록되고 있는 59타는 2010년 이전까지 미국프로골프대회 역사상 단 세 번 있었습니다. 그런데 2010년에 폴 고이도스가 59타를 기록하였고, 한 달 후에 스튜어트 애플비가 또 다시 59타를 기록하였습니다. 그 결과 어떤 스포츠기자들은 골프에서 가장 선망의 대상인 59타 기록도 이제는 흔한 일이 될 거라고 예측했습니다! 한 시즌에 두 번씩이나 59타의 점수가 나온 것은 놀라운 일이지만, 그것을 평범한 일로 보기 시작하는 것은 잘못된 일입니다.
예수 그리스도를 따르는 사람들이 비범한 일을 평범한 것으로 여기는 것도 잘못입니다. 예를 들어 기도에 대해 생각해봅시다. 우리는 말씀으로 우주를 있게 하신 창조주 하나님과 어느 때든지 대화할 수 있습니다! 우리는 하나님의 임재 가운데로 갈 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 담대하게 들어오라고 초대까지 받았습니다. “그러므로 우리는 긍휼하심을 받고 때를 따라 돕는 은혜를 얻기 위하여 은혜의 보좌 앞에 담대히 나아갈 것이니라”(히 4:16).
하나님께 나아가는 것은 결코 평범한 일이 아닙니다. 하지만 때때로 우리는 이 특권을 그저 당연한 것처럼 여깁니다. 하나님은 전능하신 분이신 동시에, 우리를 사랑하시며 언제 어느 때라도 하나님의 이름을 부르며 기도할 수 있도록 허락해 주시는 우리의 아버지이십니다. 이 얼마나 비범한 일입니까! |

로마서 8:12-26
[12] 그러므로 형제들아 우리가 빚진 자로되 육신에게 져서 육신대로 살 것이 아니니라
[13] 너희가 육신대로 살면 반드시 죽을 것이로되 영으로써 몸의 행실을 죽이면 살리니
[14] 무릇 하나님의 영으로 인도함을 받는 그들은 곧 하나님의 아들이라
[15] 너희는 다시 무서워하는 종의 영을 받지 아니하였고 양자의 영을 받았으므로 아바 아버지라 부르짖느니라

[16] 성령이 친히 우리 영으로 더불어 우리가 하나님의 자녀인 것을 증거하시나니
[17] 자녀이면 또한 후사 곧 하나님의 후사요 그리스도와 함께 한 후사니 우리가 그와 함께 영광을 받기 위하여 고난도 함께 받아야 될 것이니라
[18] 생각건대 현재의 고난은 장차 우리에게 나타날 영광과 족히 비교할 수 없도다

[19] 피조물의 고대하는 바는 하나님의 아들들의 나타나는 것이니
[20] 피조물이 허무한 데 굴복하는 것은 자기 뜻이 아니요 오직 굴복케 하시는 이로 말미암음이라
[21] 그 바라는 것은 피조물도 썩어짐의 종노릇한 데서 해방되어 하나님의 자녀들의 영광의 자유에 이르는 것이니라
[22] 피조물이 다 이제까지 함께 탄식하며 함께 고통하는 것을 우리가 아나니
[23] 이뿐 아니라 또한 우리 곧 성령의 처음 익은 열매를 받은 우리까지도 속으로 탄식하여 양자 될 것 곧 우리 몸의 구속을 기다리느니라
[24] 우리가 소망으로 구원을 얻었으매 보이는 소망이 소망이 아니니 보는 것을 누가 바라리요
[25] 만일 우리가 보지 못하는 것을 바라면 참음으로 기다릴지니라
[26] 이와 같이 성령도 우리 연약함을 도우시나니 우리가 마땅히 빌 바를 알지 못하나 오직 성령이 말할 수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 친히 간구하시느니라 | |
