배우려는 자세
스스로 지혜롭게 여기지 말찌어다 －잠언 3:7 

 

교회에서 예배가 막 시작하려는데 뒷자리에서 어떤 아이가 엄마와

얘기하는 소리가 들렸습니다. 그들은 주보에서 7, 8월 동안 매일 잠언

한장씩 읽자고 권고하는 광고를 읽고 있었습니다.
그 아이는 엄마에게 “8월은 30일밖에 없는데, 그럼 31장은

어떻게 해?”하고 물었습니다. 엄마는 8월에는 31일이 있다고

말해주었는데도 아이는“아니야, 30일밖에 없어.”라고 대꾸했습니다.
예배 중 서로 인사하는 순서가 되었을 때, 나는 돌아서서

그 아이에게 인사를 건넸습 니다. 그러고 나서“8월에는 31일이

정말로 있단다.”라고 말해주었습니다. 그 아이는 “그렇지 않아요.

31일이 있는 달이 두 달째 계속 있을리 없어요.”라며 우겼습니다.
찬송이 시작되어서 나는 그냥 미소만 지었습 니다.

이 짧은 경험은 나에게 우리 자신의 지혜 보다 더 큰 지혜를 구하며

가르침을 받으려 는 자세를 우리가 계발할 필요가 있다고 생각하게

해주었습니다. 잠 언3장에서아버지가아들에게권면하는 자세는

겸손입니다.“ 스스로 지혜롭게 여기지 말찌어다 여호와를 경외하며”

(7절). 잠언 2장에서는 “네 귀를 지혜에 기울이며......감추인 보배를

찾는 것 같이 그것을 찾 으라” (2,4절)라고 가르쳐주고 있습니다.

8월에 30일만 있는지 31일이 있는지를 아는 게 그다지 중요하지는

않겠지만 가르침을 받으려는 자세를 가지는 것은 정말 중요합니다.

그로 인해 하나님과 다른 사람으로부터 지혜를 얻는데 도움이

되기 때문입니다. 다음 달에 매일 잠언 한 장씩을 읽는 것으로 지혜를

얻는 일을 시작할 수도 있을 겁니다. [잠언 1:1 '다윗의 아들 이스라엘

왕 솔로몬의 잠언이라'라고 시작하여, 31:31 '그 손의 열매가 그에게로

돌아갈 것이요. 그 행한 일로 인하여 성문에서 칭찬을 받으리라.'로

주님, 우리가 알아야 할 진리를 당신의 거룩한 말씀으로 가르치소서
그래서 주님이 주시는 기쁜 복된 소식을 다른 이들과 나누게 하소서

참된 지혜는 하나님과 함께 시작하고 하나님과 함께 끝난다.

A TEACHABLE SPIRIT

Do not be wise in your own eyes. －Proverbs 3:7

 

Just before our church service began, I over-
heard a young man behind me talking with his
mother. They were reading an announcement
in the bulletin about a challenge to read one
chapter of Proverbs each day for the months of
July and August. He asked his mom, “What will
we do with chapter 31 in August since there
are only 30 days?” She said she thought there
were 31 days in August. He responded, “No,
there are only 30.” When it was time in the
service to greet each other, I turnedback toward
him and said hello. Then I added, “August does
have 31 days.” He insisted, “No, it doesn’t.
There can’t be 2 months in a row with 31
days.” The singing started, so I just smiled.

This brief encounter made me think about our
need to develop a teachable spirit, seeking
wisdom beyond our own. In Proverbs 3, the
attitude the father recommends to the son is
one of humility: “Do not be wise in your own
eyes; fear the Lord” (v.7). In chapter 2, he says,
“Incline your ear to wisdom. . . ; search for her
as for hidden treasures” (vv.2,4).

Knowing whether August has 30 or 31 days
doesn’t matter much, but having a teachable
spirit does. It will help us gain wisdom from God
and others. Reading a chapter from Proverbs
each day next month may give us a start.

The genus Cornus is a group of about 30-60 species of woody plants in the family Cornaceae, commonly known as dogwoods. Most dogwoods are deciduous trees or shrubs, but a few species are nearly herbaceous perennial subshrubs, and a few of the woody species are evergreen. Several species have small heads of inconspicuous flowers surrounded by an involucre of large, typically white petal-like bracts, while others have more open clusters of petal-bearing flowers. The various species of dogwood are native throughout much of temperate and boreal Eurasia and North America, with China and Japan and the southeastern United States particularly rich in native species.   From Wikipedia
